Typical training day with my fabulous S&W 610 but sustained a fractured factory Metal Injected Molded firing pin. This failure completely shuts the gun down so keep an eye out.
Not good! I love my 610 but this makes me worry about it as a bear backup. Could make for a bad day with a pissed off griz! How many rounds have you put through it before failure occurred approximately?
Approximately 800 to 1,000 rounds of a mixture of heavy 10’s and .40 S&W’s. Like yourself, I love my 610. It’s my stateside field companion and USPSA Revolver Division gun.
When Smith and Wesson redesigned the revolver firing pin by moving it off the nose of the hammer and installing it in the frame they went to Metal Injected Molded internal parts.
They dont make them like they uss to .I have heard of lots of sw 29 locking up on third shot .I am weary of the 460 sw i bought heard they shoot loose quick .
One last photo on this issue. When the back of the factory MIM firing pin sheared off my S&W 610 during a routine workout here is where it landed internally and hopelessly locked up the action:
