One of my families favourite destinations is Kalizo River Lodge on the Zambezi River, just 25km down stream from Katima Mulilo.
Our last trip was in 2012
We left Winterton at 5am to start out two day journey to the Caprivi Strip.
We made the Botswana boarder in good time even though we where in a fully loaded Landy and where pulling an afrispoor trailer. We decided to push a little further and made camp in a fantasticly well run campsite whose name now eludes me.
Day two was a hard push and where hoping to get to Kasane in northern Botswana. Once again we made good time and crossed into Namibia.
We set up camp in the dark and decided to use the extra day to fish.
My brother, a semi pro cyclist joined us as he wasn't training and soon opened up the tiger account with a 2,5kg tiger. He followed up with another.
My father lost his trace so I handed my rod to my mom whilst I built a new trace for him.
My Mom after a minute said the line was running so we tightened the drag and told her to just reel it in. Having never fished before we coached her on bringing the fish in. All was relatively calm until the tiger broke the water in a beautiful arc revealing itself to us. It was a decent fish. This upped the pressure. After about 10mins my mother bought in a 4.5kg beast. The pride we felt for our designated cheerleader, drinks specialist and sunscreen application was immense!
The boys where under pressure.
The next couple of days saw us bring in a couple fish each day averaging on 2kg per fish. my then girlfriend, now wife caught her first tiger in those days and started to show some skill in the fishing department.
To break the lull, my dad got a 4kg which fought like a champ!
A bit over tigers Sadie and I went fishing off the banks for barbel/catfish. She showed me how it was done. Shortly after we had to move as the resident Croc came back.
The day after Christmas I showed everybody whose boss with a 4.9kg tiger.
This was short lived as Sadie pulled in a 5.1kg beast!
The rest of the holiday we continued to catch, but nothing over the 3.5kg mark.
Kalizo is a well run camp that also offers chalets and delicious local meals.
The pub is festive and each night at least one owner comes down for a couple of drinks they cater for international guests and arrange tours to Chobe and Vic falls.
The scenery is amazing, you are right on the mighty Zambezi and the sunsets are un matched.

This is not a plug for Kalizo, I just believe great service must be commended!

Until this guy posts something on pay it forward free I would avoid him at all costs.

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.

Hey pal! I'll take all the .375 bullets if they're available.
Thanks!
