My Son (23) and I are looking forward to booking our first ever Africa hunt next year. August-October 2027 timeframe is what I'm thinking but we are flexible. Cold nights/mornings don't bother us. We're likely looking at +/- 7 days of hunting with our own rifles.

Looking primarily for the African Safari experience. Even better if it's a little Hemmingway-esque. I'm an experienced hunter and my son is intermediate (although there's going to be lots of practice leading up to this.) So, 2x1 is likely best and preferred.

Trophies are nice but respectable animals are completely acceptable. We're really only interested in some form of "fair chase," so open concessions would get the nod but it's not mandatory.

For our first go-round we're primarily looking to hunt at least the following:

Kudu
Gemsbok
Hartebeest
Wildebeest

Definitely open to other opportunities including warthog, baboon, and vervet would be great.

I'll save the 5-star accommodations for when I come back with the Missus. Also, if possible, what we hunted would be what's on the menu in some form or fashion. (If there's an African equivalent to Rocky Mountain Oysters I'm going to pass, however.)

@JKO HUNTING SAFARIS would love to host you and your son. We hunt large properties in the Northwest Province of RSA in the Kalahari. We also have a very large property (some 85,000 acres) in the Free State that have all of these main animals on your list.

Are you wanting one of each of those for both you and your son, or splitting the 4 between you?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Good day, Sir! We'll send you a DM.
Regards
Johan

I generally like the timeframe you’re planning. Just keep in mind June and July will be the coldest months. September will be warm. October will be hot.

For the Kalahari experience you won't go wrong with @DE KLERK SAFARIS large track of land and if you like you can start stalking from the camp/lodging you will be staying at and never see the whole place.

If it's a fair chase hunt you are looking for in old school type camp and hunting style, please get in touch with me.

Im keeping an eye out for your email .

I try to go middle to end of August Eastern Cape RSA. The wildflowers are just starting but still cool enough for snakes and bugs to be down. Also, it's the end of season and sometimes very good deals can pop up. For example, last month I was offered unbelievable deals culling giraffe and buffalo. So cheap I won't quote it here or I'll be pestered forever to provide connections. Previous safari a landowner needed a very large bull waterbuck eliminated. He had been on the range too long and beating up the other bulls. Result: he starts breeding his progeny = defective gene pool. We hunted for him two days without success. In the meantime I shot a very nice ram impala and "culled" a common springbuck with. 14" horns (property was being converted to black springbuck). The springbuck eluded us for a day before we ran into him by accident leaving the property. He made a mistake and I put him in the salt. Also, that safari I "culled" a gemsbuck bull that was also due to be replaced. Took two days to get him and I finally had to resort to a running shot. Brought that 2023 skull back with me this time. He measures 37" which is not too shabby. Again, the price was way below usual trophy fee. These deals tend to come up at the end of winter there. Here winter is the hard time for game. There it is the hot summers. This last safari I shot three animals that for sure wouldn't last through the coming summer. None were offered as "deals" because they were not culls, although the eland was in such bad shape I was cut a deal on him post mortem.

You have your list but also have your outfitter keep an ear open for any "specials" that might be offered. If you go that late, I'm sure some opportunities will avail.

Instead of late winter, which may be the driest time, my preference would be during or just after the rainy season. Check local areas for months/seasons of normal wet vs dry. But that’s just me. Also ask tough questions of your outfitter. Some outfitters try to “sell” certain dates to fill and fit their schedule and not necessarily to benefit your hunt or experience.

Send you a DM. You will love Namibia. Hope we can make this happen for you at Kalahari Safari.

Good day Sir,

I send you a DM! We are a great fit for what you are looking for.

Kind Regards

MI Adventurer,

If you are looking for a Classic safari experience you might want to book your 7-day PG hunt in an area where you'll likely encounter the Big 5 as well as an assortment of PG. There are unfenced areas in Zimbabwe and Mozambique that will offer you that experience.

There nothing that says Africa like lions calling in the night!

Mark

Check out some options in Namibia.

I think it offers a really good balance for a first trip to Africa, especially if value is important.

I hunted with @KHOMAS HIGHLAND HUNTING SAFARIS and had an absolute blast with them. I’ve been there with friends and family and have nothing but good things to say.

You won’t have the Big Five experience while hunting there, but you can hunt low-fence country for kudu, oryx, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, and other native game in some incredible mountain country.
all ow fencde and native species is the way to go. Its real

Hello MI Adventurer
If you are looking for a large area in the Kalahari you have found the right place.
Our accommodations are probably better than what you want but what the heck it is sometime nice to spoil you and your son.
If you want mild weather (50 to 90 F) come in April, May or August, Sept.
If you want cold weather (30 to 70 F) come in June and July.

If interested just send me an e-mail.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
