Jo-burg Hotels

I have stayed at Afton eight times over the years and number nine will be this August.
As has been noted by others, having Mr. X on your side is priceless. During covid, he worked
his charm several times for me and just having him to help with check-in for an Airlink flight
with a rifle makes things work very smooth.
I can't agree with this more....

I just booked a Hampton Inn in Tampa FL. It includes powdered eggs and "I can't believe it's not sausage" every morning for $167/night. I can't imagine paying $15k for an animal and worrying about $20 extra for a comfortable night's sleep. Indulge, my friends!

About $150

I had thought Africa Sky was about $150 a night, but I couldn't remember for sure. I looked at an email for an upcoming trip and it looks like it is $200/night. But of course, anyone that has stayed there knows that also includes, airport meeting/assistance, shuttle, dinner &breakfast, and free drinks.

I haven't stayed at city lodge, but I have to imagine I would end up spending around $50 on food and drink.

I think the main benefit to City Lodge is you are in control of whether or not you miss your flight the next day.

I think I will go Africa Sky in 2027 and see how that goes. Then I will have stayed at all 3. Afton, City Lodge, Africa Sky.
Well, you would be still missing the Intercontinental.

This is 100% my logic. A flight that departs after 12pm I’m picking Africa Sky or Afton. A flight that departs in the morning and in picking an Airport Hotel. No worry about traffic, flat tire, sleeping in or through an alarm with potential jet lag.

Conversions when it comes to an airport hotel I’m cheap. The Intercontinental is great (like most of the properties) but I look at a hotel on a layover as “a hot shower and somewhere to lay my head for 8-10 hours”. As long as the beds clean, I’ll pick the cheapest option which in this case is City Lodge. If there was a Hilton Property I’d pick that and burn some of my 4.5 million points

I’m booked their the night of 8/7 before my flight the next day to Windhoek
Digressing who are you flying in with, arriving that night as well (meant to be driving up to camp assuming the flight arrives somewhere on time).

Noting carefully the feedback on hotel experiences here, in case of unexpected delays and for future trips, appreciate the great thread.

Africa Sky this past June.
I was there 3 nights.
Arrival night Delta June 12. Depart 9am June 15th. $185 per night, included dinners, Breakfast, Lunch, soft drinks and bottle water,
Laundry done 2 times for me. Room cleaned daily. Only extra was alcohol. $150 rifle permits. $120 vip meet greet. Best money I spent to relax and hot showers and excellent food.

I have stayed at all three. If you have the extra time in my mind no question Africa Sky is the nicest. I just always seem to be heading out early the next morning for my hunt so I don’t want to leave the airport

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
