A genuine GEM! Every once on a while you come across a place that is truly worthy of recognition and recommendation. From the communication pre-arrival, to the stay and concluding with round trip airport transportation, I cannot recommend the Armagh Guesthouse enough.
We utilized the guesthouse after having spent 8-days on the East Cape post-family hunt with Game 4 Africa, and prior to a late evening flight departure. The owners and the staff are kind, gracious and have a no-problem- is-too-big kind of attitude (and being Irish one that whiskey can't solve). The location is about 10 minutes from the airport. After a quick call upon arrival, the owner’s daughter picked us up in an SUV towing a luggage trailer big enough to put a coffin in, so luggage esp. a gun case is not a concern. The guesthouse sits just off of a busy street, but on a quite side road. Through a gated entry is a serene courtyard, pool and lapa containing a big screen TV and honor bar (variety of beers & soft drinks). We sat in the lapa enjoying the calm and quite for several hours, using free Wi-Fi, and enjoyed several cold beers priced very reasonably at 20R. We truly appreciated being allowed to keep a room, and use of the lapa and pool into late afternoon and prior to our return flight which was not departing until 7PM, despite the posted 10AM check-out time. The rooms (we had two) are spacious with comfortable beds, large bathrooms, and are absolutely spotless. These appear new and modern. Breakfast consisted of a full Irish breakfast (ok no pudding) with made to order eggs, and the full amenities of a continental breakfast buffet are presented as well. Within 5-10 minutes of easy walking are a mall, gun store and a vast number of good restaurants offering every imaginable cuisine possible. Recommendations, directions and suggestions can be obtained from the owners.
This will be our residence of choice when staying in Joburg when considering communication, cleanliness, location, ease of use and cost (2 rooms w/BF + tax, airport transfers and a couple of beers came to 1400R).
