I think I know the answer but who knows.

I saw that, and another article elsewhere about the same. According to the other article this pops up about every 10 years and goes no where. If am still alive in 2036, I will read about it again.

No.

Because of the so-called “Environmental Groups”.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

That’s the tragedy about something when it’s gone. It becomes damn difficult (if not outright impossible) to ever bring back.

Rather, we should focus on saving the future of hunting in countries where hunting is still fortunately legal.

Most likely no

The NGOs will shovel some more money at the government before this would get too far into any process.

I do hope one day but it doesn’t look to be anytime soon

NO !

Also I don’t believe there is much left outside super protected areas/parks.

When I was there in the late 80s it was bad but much much worse when I went back in 2017.

The educated Kenyans in any positions of power actually hate white people & blame ever woe of Africa on White Colonials.

Extremely hard to organise anything there without paying out the nose, strangely the Chinese are in lots of positions & even breeding with the local population.

It’s unfortunate that a return of even limited hunting is unlikely, as Kenya is a truly wonderful country. If Kenya ever does have even a limited re-opening for birds and limited plains game I’d be all over any opportunity.

I may go fishing there later this year, out of Watamu for Sailfish. It’s a spectacular destination for truly wonderful fishing. I’ve got a great connection who is a long time Tanzania PH that lives in Nairobi and whom I’ve enjoyed some great times with there.

I think hunting birds is still allowed from what I've seen.

Back in 1994, the PH in Tanzania told me that there is hope that big game hunting in Kenia would soon reopen. I am still waiting.

That’s not why hunting stopped in 1977. Research the wife and daughter of the President. Hunting was ended so the outfitters and PHs wouldn’t witness the ivory poaching that was supported by the government. The daughter was the Mayor of Nairobi and ran a business that was granted ivory exports even after the ivory trade ban was supposedly put in place.

No hope in my opinion, unless drastic political change happens.

In the present set of circumstances, legalizing hunting is not possible.
They lost all the wildlife outside the national parks. 80% of wild life gone.
So, what to hunt? Where to hunt?

The only way is to legalize hunting on private properties, and make legal friendly frame for game ranching.
And nobody is even thinking about this.

There have been few media articles in last ten years about opening hunting in Kenya, but thats about it.

Yes that was the word, first closed Elephant hunting in 1973 then as still too many PH - Trackers & clients in the Poaching fields closed all hunting in 76-77 & then it really got bad for the animals !

Also check the amount of zebra skins etc that she and mamma exported after the ban...and as said subject comes up from time to time....last time they actually sent a delegation around various southern African countries to check out how hunting was conducted and the benefits...when the delegation returned to Kenya they put forward a proposal to allow a limited hunting operation to be set up to see how it would work....guess what the anti hunting ngos that pump shit loads of money into Kenya had a shitfit....and when the proposal got to the president he vetoed it....also if you read the article and then the posts under it...as sarge said... the majority of comments were that it was a colonial relic forced on them and a white peoples pastime....and so all pretty angrily totally against any reopening of a colonial pastime.....there used to be some bird hunting, but I think that also was stopped a while ago...not 100% on that though...but have not seen anything about it for years...so no it ain't going to happen

Kenya is run by many anti Hunting NGO's now. They have a lot of power and it will be very unlikely that hunting will return.

I have faith. Especially when I know people like you and many others are passionately involved in organisations like SCI. Its the reason why I joined a few years ago.

Angola looked lost forever and what I've read hunting , albeit on a small scale, has returned.

So if people are not members of the likes of SCI, DSC etc. Join because money talks and good things are done by good people.

Kenya is lost, won't come back; I'm a bit worried about TZ for similar reasons; TZ government, Chinese "Belts & Roads", NGO's and other deep pockets and of course expanding population and the land fragmentation that goes along with it/

Yup...happening allover the place....here population set to double by I think 2050....government pushing mining big time....and we know how good they are at keeping control of the mining companies especially chinese....but all of them get away with serious shit....so a lot of what is still virgin bush here will be cleared, and then mines aren't exactly environmentally friendly....and also you will have big influxes of people to work in them....any time a crap road here is tarred soon there are people moving in and clearing the bush and setting up farms....charcoal appears for sale in bigger and bigger amounts as time goes on.....the amount of mining licenses issued in this country is unbelievable...and they include for ecologically sensitive areas....illegal mining is widespread including in Nat parks and gmas....they get evicted and straight back in a few days..... driving around a big majority of this country you won't see wildlife....still animals in some of the wilder less developed regions...but unfortunately one of those is where a lot of copper etc is and has been found...mines are in process of being opened there....

Where did this article appear? Just curious.

It would be so interesting to read a systematic and empirical comparison of Kenya & Tanzania's wildlife since 1977. Very similar countries with very similar histories that made different decisions about hunting which resulted in very different outcomes.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
