Which room, or place in your house or work inspires you to want to come to Africa on a hunting safari? I am sure we all have a favourite setting that stirs the yearning, brings on that smile as the mind drifts off to the bush in distant Africa and starts the day dreams. For me it is our stoep bar, 'Stanley's' with the sand pit, canvas chairs and fire smoke whisping up. The ideal al fresco board room!

I have a small room that I use as a library. Decorated in dark cherry wood bookcases and red leather chairs, fireplace and a zebra skin rug. I like to sit there, have a cigar and read a book. It has an old world feel, that stirs emotions of an adventure and a safari !

We built something similar during lockdown to keep sane and have the happy place you talk about. We called it "Strubels"

The cobble stones are granite blocks that where used to pave a road for the ox wagens to cross some drifts and what is now called the Hennops river, to cart the blocks when they built the Voortrekker Monument, the rocks for the wall is from the same mountain close to the Monument. The stone pillar holding the bar counter top use to be a barn door post from a farm close to Sheepmoor chopped from the mountain 1903 it is very heavy...
Our happy place...

Sounds wonderful Ike, please post a pic or two so we get the feel.

Lets put the question differently.
What else would be anybody thinking about, while sitting in my living room?

I enjoy the bar in the trophy room/guest house (great place to watch a football game - like when LSU crushed Clemson), and if we have just another couple over, we will often eat there. The view down toward the river is lovely. It is much more old world than African, but it it is easy to guess that we may have been there. ;)

Love that masonry and stone work. My nest is in my great room where I can watch TV, read or look into my trophy room at my mounts. I can look out my window at the mountains ( snow covered this morning) and think about skiing or hiking.

Entrance hall, living room, corridor, study, we are just surrounded by trophies, masks, spears...

I'll have to say my living room. It is where most my African trophies are, except the Warthog which is in our office. Wife didn't like him outside, so he is keeping company to my FL hog. LOL!!!!

Ok probably a dumb question but what is that in 3rd photo down...?
Our lake has a large fountain in the middle. I think its actually used as an aerator? Its a small lake of 63 acres, not connected to any river. But they added lights to the fountain. Its pretty at night.

I did a little housekeeping in my shop and found some .500 Jeffery ammo that I no longer need. Superior Ammunition and Hendershots loaded them, along with AHR (American Hunting Rifles). Several Woodleigh/A-Square solids along with lead bullets in both 535g and 600g. Message me for any details.

Hi Bob, how's things going in Wyong?. Down your way a couple of years back but haven't been in NSW since Ebor for the fishing. just getting over some nasty storms up here in Qld, seeing the sun for the first time in a few days. I'm going to NZ in the spring and hope to clean up a few buns while there and perhaps shake the spiders out of my old .303LE (currently owned by my BIL). Cheers Brian
