India , Rogue elephant on the loose

And what is SSS rule? Shot on Sight? :)

By the way, the elephant named Phantom is still roaming free, covering almost 20 miles at night in the thick Sal Forests, in what is arguably the biggest Sal forests in Asia.
Should they put a bounty on its head and open it up to any hunters in the world to hunt it down sooner rather than later, without further loss of human life? What do you have to say?

BTW, I was on the phone with my uncle, who stays at Ranchi - the capital of Jharkhand state, and a former hunter in his own right, he said that the population of elephants is going out of control! With deforestation and human encroachment due to India's rapid economic development, they do not have enough food to eat and therefore pillage small villages in search of food. Problem. The babus at high places need to act.

Shoot, shovel, shut up.

Of course the “shovel” component in this case becomes a little problematic

My relative, Indian Problem Animal Control Officer Nawab Shifath Ali Khan will be handling it.

The problem is that the rogue moves between two states (Bihar and Jharkhand). The Department Of Forests in Bihar has issued a shooting order for the rogue. But the Department Of Forests in Jharkhand has not. So he can only shoot the rogue if it is in Bihar.
@Hunter-Habib if your relative needs any help, I bet we can form a posse quickly. Have gun, will travel!

Habib,
The shape of the skull differs somewhat from that of the African elephant.
Is the brain positioned slightly differently in the Indian elephant?
Do you know?

Here is the African elephant; the red cavity is the brain, the index finger is the ear slit, and the right fist is the eye.

@Foxi

Yes, I do. The brain of an Indian elephant is located low & far back. In order to attempt a frontal brain shot on an Indian elephant, the hunter must draw an imaginary horizontal line from one of the elephant’s eyes to another. Then, he must aim a palm’s width above the centre of the line (in the middle of the forehead). The shot is taken when the head is at the normal position with the tusks held low. There is an oblong skull cavity at this point, where the bullet meets no heavy obstruction on it’s way to the brain at the back of the skull.

Middle S should be E = excavator
And realistically, in these remote parts of India, it is tough to move heavy equipment in thick Sal forests lacking good infrastructure.

i,d bet a dollar to a donut that more people will be hurt-killed before the elite get off their fat arses and end that problem. i,m not going to a country that throws dead bodies into a river and lets cows crap all over the place, while millions starve. so maybe the rogue elie is not a big problem for them. sorry for the rant, but some things just don,t make sense.

By that logic, none of us should be living anywhere.

Bodies were recovered by the dozens from Houston bayous last year. Others turn up every year in rivers, streams, canals, lakes, and drainage ditches all across the U.S.

So I assume the next step is to evacuate every city with running water, fence off all creeks, and relocate humanity to the nearest desert—strictly for safety, of course.

Risk and weird things happen everywhere. Selective panic doesn’t make an argument; it just makes for comedy.

Unconfirmed news is “Phantom” may have been over the musth period and joined the herd back.
Truly smart elephant creating havoc and cooly joining back the heard. Guerrilla tactics at its best

the bodies are recovered and buried if they are found here in the water ways, there they are not. big difference.

Here, if a body ends up in a waterway, it’s found, recovered, identified, and buried.
There, it just goes on an extended swim and eventually earns its own ZIP code

Same water, very different outcomes or swim policies :)

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
