Impossible to find used heym double rifle

Here is a Merkel in 416 Rigby and I know it is in stock

locating a second hand Heym is a bit like asking a prospector where all the gold is.
Be patient- do your own research and check every corner - even consider international location. And yes - when they come up they don’t last long. I bought this 88b Safari 2 in 470NE from the UK and had it imported to Australia. Even with import costs was about 50% compared to a new order. And near perfection. And shoots 1.5” at 75 yards. Superb. Similar to the verney carron - getting harder to find and costs going up. This one In .375 flanged magnum from 2012 was about $US9k new.
Keep looking and best of luck.

Well damn.

She’s a beautiful rifle. George sold that rifle for me. Gosh, I wanted to keep it, but it was just too beautiful to hang onto.

I jave been searching high and low for a used heym 88b. When I see them inads they are already sold. Called Champlin Arms and all the heyms they had advertised were already sold. So frustrating!
When one pops up you’re going to need to act quick. They’re also commanding a premium price because of the wait time/impatience you described. Unfortunately quality doubles can’t be mass produced or built quickly which aids in spiking demand and price.

For the money many used Heym’s are bringing, you can get into a very nice vintage British gun from one of the smaller makers or a trade gun. You can also spend a little more and have a beautiful vintage gun from one of the big London firms. I sold my Heym and jumped into British guns.

What is the right price for a lightly used .470ne? I know there is quality differences in case hardened or engraving and gold inlay, claw scope attachments, rmr slots and the like. What is thr ballpark range to everyone?

You’re not going to like this, but I honestly wouldn’t be shocked to see a seller who knows the market, listing a lightly used one for a little more than the cost to order one in that configuration today.

The perceived value lost from it being lightly used, is made up for getting it today vs 3 years from now. Never mind the demand for a Heym today vs 3 years from now, and those with money who put a premium value on time.

Ok you guys are going to have to school me about paso robles. What is it?

A blight on a great gunmaker name. Think it was under ownership here in the US for a couple decades from memory. They guns were in name only similar to Rigby’s of the past.

A city in California

The Rigby name was sold to an investor in 1997(?), owners moved it from London to the US (Paso Robles, CA). Quality was nothing like that of London or the Rigby name. Guns from that time period/place go for way last than London built guns made before or after that period.

Probably going to take a little flack for this comment but Rigby stopped truly being Rigby in the 1950’s when the last Rigby passed.

I sold mine to the same guy I had bought it from basically new (6 rounds through each barrel) for what I had in it in cost. Anyone else I probably would have added $5K minimum.

I don’t disagree at all. I sold mine for essentially what I had into it, and less than a year later it was being sold for more than double what I sold it for.

500 ne is past my rocoil tolerance, 470ne is my threshold.
I dont know if you have shot a 470 & 500 side by side.

Honestly, in my experience the difference in recoil is minimal and if you add 1/2 pound to the 500 I'll argue there is no difference.

I own both and favor the 500 NE. And, last I was buying ammo/reloading supplies the 500 were actually a little easier to come by. Point being they're both popular and there are plenty of supplies out there to support both calibers.

For personal reference. I'll be in Africa this summer at 62 years of age hunting with the 500.

Maybe I will run into someone with a 500 I can try out. That's the only way I would buy one. The PH I am booked with for next years buffalo hunt uses one. Maybe he will let me try it out. He shoots a Merkel.

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
