Importing Replacement Rifle Stocks to Zim

Good morning my PH in Zim has asked me about helping him source replacements for:

• CZ Model 550 chambered in .458
• CZ .416 (also on a Model 550 platform)

Has anyone on here ever sent or taken parts with them and if so are there any permit issues?

Last year I took a shotgun forearm to Zambia in my checked bag and had no issues. Brought parts with me to Namibia. None of them resembles association with a firearm as much as a rifle stock though.

For Johnny? Know he needs one for his CZ 500J. The gorgeous custom stock on his rifle was snapped this last fall.

I asked about bringing one if I could find it when I returned (which I leave in 2.5 days, but figured it would be more like the fall) and they made it sound like Zim was crazy strict with bringing in parts…even ones made all of wood. Like if it looked like part of a gun then it was a gun.

From a couple PH’s talking it over, sounded like getting it to someone in RSA was likely best first step. Again, zero personal experience on this, just was the Zim PH’s were saying. I have a gunsmith friend who goes to RSA and Namibia often, and he seems to bring all kinds of bits and pieces for this rifle or that one, dies, components, etc., for his PH and friends.

Not for Johnny but that was my concern to get there and then have it taken away or have trouble with customs.

If you have a CZ 550, the easiest way would be to fly over with the new stock on your rifle and trade them out.

If customs asks you on the return trip, just tell them the stock broke on Safari.

FYI - The B&C stocks for the 550 are really nice.

I haven't experienced any problems shipping items to SA. Two times I brought items my PH requested in my check in luggage with no issues. I also sent a couple hundred bullets my PH couldn't get by US Mail and they arrived no problem. CAVEAT: whatever you ship, ensure you get a tracking number.
