I have a chance to pick up a Model 70 Classic Stainless factory chambered in 300 Weatherby Magnum. I have no need for a 300 Weatherby. That part of the spectrum is covered with a 300 H&H along with a 308 Norma Mag. I also have a 375 H&H along with a 358 Norma Magnum. I am contemplating building something in the .416 or .458 bore.

Based on my research, it should be reasonable to convert to a 416 Remington Magnum or possibly a 458 Lott. These two might just be a simple rebarrel. What other potential options am I overlooking? There have to be some unexpected pitfalls along the way too.

I could just as easily buy a new Model 70 Safari Express in 416 Remington. With a conversion, I would have the original Model 70 trigger in a stainless rifle.

Convert it (rebarrel) to a 416 Taylor.
If Winchester had not had their collective heads up arse in the 70's the Taylor would have been the new standard 416 instead of the Remington.
