I love my new model 70 Alaskan

I'm not interested in "under an inch".
Yes bedding of the chamber area is necessary, but pinching the lug, especially on the bottom surface is a VERY BAD IDEA when the gun will be used in different climate conditions. Being bedded in front is also a bad idea for similar "pinching" situations. Bedding under the chamber is vital.
Do what you want, of course, i learned these "rules of bedding" back when shooting with some old accuracy nuts in 1973.

Ill be listing a Portugal EWSS and a pile of ammo in a few days. Gonna be a good deal for someone.

The BACO model 70's are really nice. They get a little flak because of the triggers, but I find mine to be really good. They shoot well.

Yep, thats a shooter. How's your trigger?

I like the barrel profile of the alaskan. I think its a good fit for the caliber. The safari expresses are a little front heavy. Nice for soaking up some recoil though.

Now put an AB Raptor 8 suppressor on it for even more fun!

I don't see how bedding the barrel shank can cause any pinching and I did nothing to the recoil lug area as it was already bedded from the factory

Trigger is good now that I put in the Mcarbo trigger springs. The center hole in the bullseye is from another group , the three shots are in the top 2 holes with 2 thru the hole on the left

Yes, I have a safari but I like the Alaskan much better because of the barrel profile, 7 ½ pounds slick and 9 pounds with a heavy scope on it, just right for a 375 IMHO

This is good to hear! I'm planning to add a M70 African in 375 to my collection in the coming years and that accuracy is far better than I expected with a heavy cartridge, even if it took some tinkering!

I would also add that I had a new M70 featherweight chambered in 6.5prc a few years ago, an impulse purchase really to try out that cartridge. It was arguably one of the most consistently accurate rifles I have ever fired. After changing the trigger out with a timmney it would reliably print dime sized groups at 100 yards! Unfortunately the rifle was plauged with feeding issues from day one and no matter how much I fiddled with it I could not get it to reliably feed off the left side of the magazine box. Between that and being unimpressed with the 6.5prc I sent the rifle down the road.

The Winchester is a much smoother and nicer rifle, Ruger doesn't hold a candel to it. MHO

They have their positives. They're ugly out the box so you dropping it in the rocks is less of an offense, which can be an asset depending on who you are. Personally, having formally beautiful wood and blued rifle like an Alaskan M70 with a lot of battle scars is a positive to me, but some people like their shiny things to stay shiny.

My only problem with ruger is their current price point. Its neck and neck with winchester, and the winchesters are just plain nicer rifles. The rugers ive shot lately (not many) have all been decent shooters and functionally 100%. Id use one without hesitation.

My money would be for the winchester 10/10 times though.

Thanks for your feedback back ! I have been looking at the Ruger African in 270 or the Winchester m70 Alaskan in 338 win mag

What will you be hunting with it?

Sounds like a good shooting rifle. Good to hear. I just get a new model 70 this week. Safari Express in .416 Rem. I shot it for the first time today to sight it in at 50 yards, and it was doing 1/2" at that range. I'll try it at 100 next.
