How is everyone’s winter prep going.

The flip side of that is I only work 60-100 days a year for the boat and the rest of the time is mine to do with as I please. View attachment 789369

I can sit hear and enjoy this view and this fire with the wife sipping rye on a Tuesday and not have to answer to a boss tomorrow if I get up an hour late. Everything has its good and bad points.
Not having a boss is pretty cool. Neither of my jobs have a punch clock so unless there is storm or emergency, I can’t really be late to work.

It sounds homemade
My family went with corn and cane skimming or the Cain syrup
And fruit was normally blackberry or mulberry

Uncle grew three or four acres of strawberries every year we always had some set back for family use. Any more than that and we’ll have to switch to pm.

Most folks have never had an actual vine ripened strawberry. Incomperable.

Honestly that’s just sad.
Especially how easy. Remember the tv show adds for the upside down strawberry growing pot you could nearly grow them anywhere.
As a kid we kept strawberry plants around the wells
Where the hose leak from watering the stock would water the plants.

I loved the wild grape ( bullace) this time of year here good ones were sweet some were like sweet tarts to sour patch type flavors
My nephew says some of them taste just like the sour patch candy.
He picked all the ones he could reach. Then went and got part of a ladder off a deer stand and picked all he could get

Anyone ever notice how intertwined pork an apples are ? Wife an I spent today jarring apple sauce and rendering lard. Pigs around here are traditionally finished with apples to give the meat a sweet flavour. Pork chops locally are served with applesauce as a condiment. It takes lard to make pie crust when baking an apple pie. Both are harvested around the same time locally.

Do you render your lard? Mom renders tallow from our steers. It sure is better than crisco.

Did six litre jars this morning and messed around with making a candle while it rendered.

Hemp twine a washer an a carnation milk can, smells like bacon when it’s burning though.

Rest of the lard goes to my buddy to make bird seed blocks out off.

Pineapple here and some times ornge or lemon

Crabapple are not that good at least the ones I have had

My wife tells me I’m a “prepper” I prefer the term hillwilliam myself ( hillwilliam noun similar to a hillbilly only better educated and with more teeth )

With that being said I do split my time during most of the months I’m not commercially fishing between logging and preparing for the following winter. This year has gone quite well harvested over an apple bin full of potatoes out of the garden. Got enough various other vegetables preserved in various manners to see us most of the way through the winter.

My firewood is about 90 percent done I’ve got half a tear worth of room left in the wood shed. The wood is blocked and split in the yard just got to take an evening and put it in. That’ll give me five cord under cover which is enough dry I’ll supplement it with another three cords or so of green when fishing slacks off over the winter.

Built a new meat cooler this last weekend and just got the wireing done on it today. My pigs are going to have a bad day Saturday morning. Also have 30 or so young roosters to butcher in the coming days.View attachment 789250View attachment 789251View attachment 789252View attachment 789253View attachment 789254View attachment 789255View attachment 789256View attachment 789257

Anyone else do any winter prepping ? How’s your summer been?
pretty fancy wood shed, I would say brother. Question. What brand of controller do you have on your air conditioner. I have a Coolbot in my meat cooler, but it has been acting up. Maybe I should upgrade. Also what do they cost, mine was about $300. About 20 cords there.

I use inkbirds but it takes two to make it work.

they are roughly 50 dollars a piece off Amazon.

A/c unit plugs into one ink bird with the temperature probe inserted gently between the fins of the condenser. Set this ink bird to 0.5c when the condenser begins to ice up this controller cuts power until it defrosts.

Second ink bird is set to 4c and has a light bulb plugged into it. The air conditioners temperature probe is tin foiled loosely to the lightbulb. When the light bulb comes on it heats the probe and lies to the a/c unit tricking it into thinking the room is hotter than it is.

Mine aren’t crab apples my trees were planted and grafted before my time, mostly Macintosh’s and gravenstiens with a few russets mixed in. Two far north here for citrus to grow, can you ferment citrus or is it to acidic for the yeast to bloom in?

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer

Couple of quick questions:

1) Can we add some additional species on
2) what do you want for a deposit?
3) how do you want me to sign up

I'm on whats app or email
