How do you seat primers ?

I use a couple of different ones. One can be chucked in a drill and the other is turned by hand. Very simple tools. Available through various reloading supply outfits.

I have 2 of this type, bought close to 50 years ago from Whitetail Manufacturing, large and small rifle. They are still sharp.

Primal Rights is by far the best of the best. Hornady just ripped off the PR design with their new primer tool.

For precision I use Primal Rights. I seat to the depth of the cup minus .001. For doubles what not I just use the RCBS bench tool. Use to use the RCBS hand primer but that gets old.

Hornady look great but screw them. Tired of the ripping off other manufactures, they did the same with their case trimmer.

I’ll second and third the Primal Rights primer seater, best thing since sliced bread. Consistent and very easy to do, my kids love it and I can work the press next to em.

I still use the original rcbs hand priming tool that came with my first “kit.” I’ve added some smaller pieces and parts so I could load smaller calibers.
I like the “feel” of it and can detect too shallow or deep or poor fitting primers. I do clean my primer pockets but I don’t keep brass long enough to have issues with loose primer pockets.
I also am not loading large volume as would be common in AR platforms or handguns.
I suppose it could cause had fatigue but I haven’t gotten there yet. View attachment 749736

You will likely not because you are squeezing with the fingers, not pushing with your thumb like other kinds.

Been reloading for years always looking for a better way or a more accurate way to reload. Hearing a lot about primer pocket uniformers and primer tools. Saw the Hornady VersaPrime. Looks like a great tool. But I ask how important is a consistent primer depth? Is my RCBS hand primer been the cause of load development frustration? Or do a lot of you feel these tool are another way to waste your money?

Call me an old timer but my RCBS hand primer has never failed me once. I trust no other. After every case I place on my flat table to ensure proper depth never worrying about too much depth just not enough. Just me!

Those Lee kits sure can be fun for a change of pace. The priming always makes me nervous though.

I started with the Lee system, in 1974.

I scared my mother big time while priming one day!

Today I use a Bald Eagle bench-mounted tool. Have a spare still in the box, I like it that much.

Seems like Primal Rights changed just enough on the Bald Eagle to avoid copyright infringement?

Nothing new under the sun! This goes on all the time.

I paid less than $200 for the Bald Eagle, back around 2015. Seems like the one thing that that continually changes is the purchasing power of the dollar!

I was using the Hornady priming tool but it was seating the primers for my 500 S&W loads too shallow, so when the firing pin hits it, the primer gets pushed into the primer pocket instead of going bang. Spent a few extra bucks for the Frankford Arsenal priming tool, it has an adjustable seater so I can dial in exactly how deep I want to seat the primer. Never had a click instead of a bang since.
