I've got a springbok and gemsbok European mount that the horns are a bit loose. Does anyone have recommendations for making the fit a bit tighter without damaging the horn by shoving it over something oversized? I was thinking about tissue paper inside the hollow horn. Thanks in advance!

Maybe try some modelling clay ?

Personally, I prefer my horns loose so they can be detached and skulls easily packaged in the event I need to move or my heirs want to relocate them. Horns are held in place on the stumps with tiny pan head wood screws through the base near the bottom of horn out of sight on the back side. Then paint the screw head with a daub of flat black primer. You'd never know they were there.

I tried hot glue but it was very unreliable.

Like one of the guys said - silicone caulk, a lot easier to work with than fooling around with Bondo. That'll give you a reasonably permanent bond - on the Gemsbok, might be able to pop, or disassemble them without damage. If for some reason, you think you may be wanting to take them apart - a forgiving substance like kids plasticene, or "funtack" will kinda hold things together temporarily. Modelling clay was mentioned, but has a habit of drying out and getting hard

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
