I received an email from a shipper in Namibia this morning saying the state vet had cancelled all inspections. My ele shipment was to be inspected next week. That is on hold. Elephants are not cloven hoofed but this kind of thing has knock on effects I guess. Anyone with more information please share, particularly if you are in Namibia. Here is one of the better articles I found online. Cheers

Awful news! @Jeff505 and I have a bunch of taxidermy in Namibia that’s just now being completed. I sent a message to the taxidermist asking if this ban applies to finished taxidermy. I’ll let the forum know what he says. I’m so damned grateful that I decided to have my leopard split off from the rest and sent to the States for taxidermy last year!

Yep, she jsut got back to me.
"No official letter from authorities... but we were told all exports were on hold"

Such a freaking bummer

thanks for sharing. Yep, my elephant stuff has all been finished product for awhile. Telling myself to remain patient, not much else we can do. Cheers

Karasburg is in the far south of the country. It may be wishful thinking, but finished trophies taken before the outbreak was detected from areas hundreds of miles from the outbreak would seem to be pretty safe. That said, governments are not known for their nuanced administration of crises.

The beef export industry to Europe is too important for them to be taking risks. The EU is also not likely to be flexible either.

Just received email from Namibia that our taxidermy shipment is now on hold as well. Probably not the worst as we are in middle of moving.

Just learned that my trophy shipment is delayed because of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth. Primarily in the south near Orange River for now. Namibia halted all exports of cloven hoofed animals countrywide.

Just got back from there today. If you are caught driving down a public road with home made beef jerky they can arrest you and put you in jail. I learned Namibia is the #1 beef producer for the UK so this has become a huge deal

Dang. I guess you don't wanna drop your soap in "Biltong Prison".

Ya its a bummer, my trophies were just at the finish line. We have been discussing the developing issue on these two threads I linked down below. As you will read, you will find out its not just cloven or hoofed animals. It seems its a blanket pause on all animal export. One hunter on here even had his elephant stopped.

that would explain why my shipment has been not moving as well. I was waiting for export permits and then they would have shipped.

I heard back from my taxidermist. According to them, the country is in panic mode. Everything is locked down until further notice. That said, I read this morning in the Namibian that restrictions are being eased outside the containment area in far south Namibia,

Yeah, I’m hoping this initial pause is just a panic reaction. Hopefully the government realizes that mounted trophies from animals hunted hundreds and hundreds of miles away literally have nothing to do with this.

That would, of course, require an African government to think logically...

Found out today my Namibia shipment which has been ready and waiting for almost 4 months is delayed. (n)

Plus probably at least 6 months before the outbreak as far as finished taxidermy goes.

Hopefully they can get enough vaccines to inoculate every cow, sheep, goat and pig in the effected area. If I remember correctly the vaccine last for about 90 or so days of prevention but there is no cure.

I was just there for 14 days. We had to empty out all jerky products on our way to the airport. If they had stopped us and yes they had two stop points on the way and they found any they can put us in jail according to Divan. They are very serious about this

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
