My library is no match for the quality of those on this thread, nor is it a match for cleanliness and organization, but this is my basecamp every day. I've been a collector of sporting books since I was ten years old but sadly I have way more books than I have bookshelves. Most are in storage.

My library is pretty narrow in diversity:

Wingshooting, Gunsmithing, and Gunmaking
Flyfishing
Western Religion
Dog training
Ornithology and Natural History
Falconry
Cigars

But lets be honest, aren't those the best topics to argue about anyway?

I wanted to share a personal update on my libraries that is a big deal for me. I'm sure many of you bibliophiles can relate, and rejoice with me.

I'm a big Jack O'Connor fan and had acquired most of his books by the early 2000's. It took me quite a while to get the last couple, and I didn't really put much effort into finding the novels at first but was able to get those 10 years ago or so. But since 2007 I've been looking for the 22 page "book" Hunting with a Binocular. Just a couple of weeks ago I was able to acquire a copy in perfect condition. A good friend found it in less than a day once I told him about it! I was up at the cabin last night so I added it to the bookshelf and snapped a quick picture with his other works.

O'Connor was very prolific so I don't have everything he wrote. I'm still looking for some pre-WW II Outdoor Life magazines and some Peterson's Hunting magazines, but at least I've got all the books now.

Not sure what it says for my intellect as entire left side are hunting and reloading books while right side is fishing and fly tying except the bottom 2 shelves one for Tom Clancy novels and one my daughters Harry Potter novels. There are momentoes of my wife and a travels.

You definitely have Mr O’Connor covered. I have several of his books but through experience and trial and error have found myself firmly in Elmer Keith’s camp. My collection of African hunting books is still a work in progress.

Here is my little corner in our office. I lost a bunch of books during one of our PCS moves, and then when I got divorced. We have a detached garage with a loft, and my wife wants to turn that space into a library. Now that I'm retired, I may have to get on that project. LOL!!!

This is a great thread. I never met an idiot who read. When I was in Baghdad in 2010, the bookstores kept all their books out in the street. The next morning, they would bring them into the shops. When I asked why, the answer shocked me and has remained with me ever since. They keep the books out at night so people can peruse books and return the next day to purchase them. They have a saying; "The reader doesn't steal and the thief doesn't read." Since everyone did it, it makes me think there is much truth in that sentiment.

I was given a nice addition to my little library (and growing backlog of pending reading) this week.

The Lonsdale Library of Sports, Games, and Pastimes, was a collection published by Seeley, Service & Co. in London, beginning in the late 1920s, and named for Lord Lonsdale, one of editors of the series.

Volumes included

• Vol IV: Fine Angling for Coarse Fish - Eric Parker
• Vol VI: The Gun Room Guide - Douglas E.S.H. -
• Vol VII: Fox Hunting - Sir Charles Frederick

I may have contracted a new affliction, as I now seek out more of these volumes.

I spend too much time doing fun stuff and living to actually read books.

Took a good friend to lunch to celebrate his birthday today. Gave him a Boonie Packer Safari sling. After 68 years, he must still be learning how birthdays work - he also got me a gift for my library.
