Here is my first fibre glass fish project. I did everything including the habitat using form, resin, soil, shavings from the fleshed skins and manila paper, wood glue and wires to make water plants. Please I need your comments and were I should improve. I want to start doing my own stuff ( taxidermy studio). Any advice from how to run the project and the market. I bought three moulds for a start ( tilapia fish, largemouth bass and a tiger fish). Please I'll be grateful to receive your comments
Thankyou

Not bad for sure! Thanks for sharing.

Ernest, unfortunately I know nothing about it, but I would like to wish you the best in your pursuit! It takes a lot of practice and experience I’m sure!
Best!

Ones I've caught tend to be a bit darker but they do vary with different habitat. I'd say it looks pretty damn good.

I do applaud you as it can't be easy working with materials in Zim. As a general criticism, everything is a bit stiff. The fish is stiff, the plants stiff etc. Try to get more motion in your fish blank such as the S curve in a swimming fish, rotate the fins etc. BUT the quickest, perhaps easiest way to remove some of the stiffness would be to use a dremel tool or saw blade to make each fin edge jagged. See reference photos-

There are lots of painting techniques that would help- a "wash" would definitely help especially with a fiberglass fish. Basically seal, white primer fish- use a really thinned black paint and brush over entire fish. Wipe off on the high spots, leaving the darker color in the deeper detail. Then use your paint schedule.

Check your eye pupil placement also

Keep after it!

FANTASTIC first attempt!!
Keep going.

Ernest that is great for a first effort, way better than anything I would achieve.

I can not add much except for a couple of observations. The water lilly's. Their stems need to be a little thicker and not straight. Most will be leaning to one side or have a curve in the stem. The lilly pads need to be a bit more 3 dimensional, that is cupped and the odd nick in the edge. Just from what I have seen of water lilly's.

Keep up the good work and keep posting your accomplishments.

Thankyou everyone for the comments and advice you gave me I'm so so grateful. Sorry for not thanking you in time. Mostly I'll be busy mounting I work for a taxidermy company but we don't do fish. You won't believe this no one taught me how to do fish just saw someone doing it and I didn't use air brush to paint fish. I used a spray gun. For paints I mixed tints into PVA white to come up with those colours and lastly water Lilly I made them from manila paper, wood glue and wire. Thankyou once again for your comments and advise. I do appreciate. Next time I'll paint a tilapia and tiger fish
