Well, it is safe cleaning time! This is a pre-Martini Express. I own/have owned numerous pre-Martini’s and no BS, this is the nicest pre-Martini I have seen. This is especially true for the .404s I have seen. Only reason for selling is (hopefully without sounding gauche) I have been fortunate enough to acquire some truly exceptional rifles over the years and several of what I perceive to be great rifles simply are relegated to a life of solitude in the safes. Some of these rifles deserve to get out and play!

LOP is 14 1/4” over .75” pad.
Barrel is 23 1/4” to action.
Recknagel pivot mount quick release 30mm system.
Leupold illuminated VX-6 1-6 (24mm) in pristine shape.

The 3-position safety on these rifles is my all time favorite. Easy to use and lever is “protected”.

Rifle is in excellent shape with some small impressions/imperfections in the stock.

Make no mistake about it, these original Heyms are not as nice as Ralf’s refined version, but as I have stated many times, I believe they are an excellent value. At least in the States, they are rarely seen in .404J.

As stated on another listing, I really do not like shipping nice (to me) guns. I am in the Austin, Texas area and travel to DFW, San Antonio and Houston regularly.

The last one I saw sell in .404 went for over 9K for the bare rifle and the stock was nowhere near as nice as this one. Add the Recknagel system and Leupold and I will be shocked if this doesn’t sell quickly.

I know I am limiting the buyer’s pool, but will leave it for sale here locally in Texas for the next 3-5 days.

Priced at $9750 picked up or delivered in Texas.

Buy with confidence - I have had multiple transactions with @RR 314 and you won't run across a better guy - this gentleman is beyond reproach in my book! He tends to err on the conservative side in his descriptions, so when he tells you something is of quality, you can bank on it. As a final comment, don't let the meeting in person qualifier be a deterrent. We have met in the middle between our respective homesteads on rifle transactions a couple of different times and it worked out great, as it is kind of nice to get that visual validation before currency changes hands. Good luck to all!

Thank you, sir. So true. I don’t like making significant purchases sight unseen and certainly don’t want any potential buyers to have any concerns. I have never had anyone feel something was misrepresented or otherwise not want to follow through with the purchase, but no offense taken if someone does not want to purchase after evaluation.

GLWS … keep selling these beautiful rifles and you’ll have a hunt in Botswana for a big bull paid for in no time

Can you elaborate on the extractor on this rifle? I’ve never seen one designed like that. Looks like a very nice rifle!

A modified Mauser design. Actions are chambering specific. I have never broken one down, but take it there is a specific tool that is required. That is all I have. :-).

I assume there’s something at the rear of the bolt that pushes that pin forward to eject the shell case when the bolt is retracted. Looks pretty slick!

Man, I seriously thought this one would go quickly. I have numerous .404s, but will include some loaded ammo and bullets she loves--specifically 380 gr. NF.

When the bolt is pulled back the bolt stop engages the pin and the bolt continues back a short distance. Stronger system because there isn't a slot cut in the bolt face for an extractor on the action. This is a 416 Rigby and were made up to 600 Nitro Express. Never seen one in 404 Jeffery until now.

Thanks. I will get one out and take a look at it more closely. I have one in .416 as well. I share the same assessment as I have only seen a couple in .404J.

Nice rifle good price. If you shipped I believe it would have sold by now.
Perhaps so. I have shipped some in the past without issue. I just greatly prefer local sales for ease of the transaction. Then again, I just read my post above and stated I wanted to designate it for local sale for 3-5 days. I really thought, even over the holiday weekend, that it would be gone/spoken for by now.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
