Ok shot my heym 88b sidelock at 200 yards today. First pic is 2 shots right barrel. Second pic is one shot left barrel aimed at edge of target so it is crossing about 5 inches to the right of tbe right barrel. Seems i could shoot plains game at 200 yards.

Nice. I have to say the Heyms in 375 with a scope is deadly accurate at extended ranges. I have not yet shot out further than 200yds with my regular boxlock 88b in 375 Flanged Mag, but the darn thing likes to shoot the 300gr A-frames for sure. And what's weird is it also doesn't cross once I slowed them down a bit. I am currently working on dialing in a load with the 300 Woodleigh RNSN and may try the Woodleigh protected point softs too, trying to find a good bullet that would expand faster than the A-frame for lighter skinned animals...like maybe a cat.

While the gun shoots the Woodleigh RNSN well, not as good as the A-Frames. So will play with it a bit more and try to get them ideally shooting as well and to the same point of aim where I could use the A-Frames for game well over 100 yards, and if a cat was ever on the list, it would be a closer range shot anyway.

What powder are you using and velocities? Not apples to apples since my rifle is a 375 Flanged Mag.

Using reloader 15 loaded to 2450 fps. At what volocities did they stop crossing for you?

My flanged mag is the top rifle.

Here are how my 300gr A-Frame and Woodleigh RNSN hit at 100yrd. Speeds are hovering in the low 2400fps range.

Then same two loads at 200yd.
I adjust my hold on the RNSN holding a bit high and left to adjust for POI and side wind. No hold adjustment on the A-frames.

Then tweaking and trying a couple different charges two days later. Bottom two are the A-frames and the top one is the RNSN. These three pair are at 60yds though.

That is a fantastic collection and some great groups! Thanks for sharing.

Mine stack vertically at 2440-ish and then immediately begin crossing anywhere faster. Mine is shooting best in the 2395-2425 range, so I’ve targeted 2400-2410 and seeing solid results there. I should say average speed. On my Flanged, the left barrel is faster than the right, and across the board regardless of bullet or powder. It is always at least 15-20 fps faster at best. Sometimes a bit more.

The gun also shot hands down best with H4831sc. I tried RL15, RL16, H4350, and H4831sc. There was a great accuracy node in the RL16 as well, but not close to the H4831sc….it was the clear, clear winner for accuracy. I know it’s known for having more felt recoil…but it’s a 375, so I don’t notice it. If I even start to, I throw a round or two down range through the 505 Gibbs and I immediately can’t tell recoil again. lol.

I will say this rifle was the most picky double Heym of the 7 that I have worked up loads for and regulated to date. But…picky or not, once you feed it what it wants, it likes to shoot tiny groups. Just need to figure out the combination for it to favor the Woodleigh.

I know it’s kind of silly or unfair to expect two barrels to shoot the same load at same or similar speeds…but sure makes me smile when it happens. This was from Friday as I’m trying to narrow in on a couple loads for the new 500NE. Shows the last three shots, so it’s Left, Right, Left for the speeds listed in the photo.

The ES/SD for the 56 shots that day was all over the place since I was shooting two different softs, three different solids, and RL15, RL16 and H4350.

Thanks for the info. I will have to try a few different powders. I do have 24lbs of R-15. So there's that.

Never really considered different speeds for each barrel. I will have to chrono them next time I have it to the range.

If you stick with enjoying doubles, you’ll blow through that RL15 in no time. I got all excited late last summer when I picked up 11 of the 5lb jugs of RL15 all same lot. Knew it wasn’t a lifetime supply but figured I’d be set for maybe a decade.

NOPE!

I’m just about to the end of my 4th 5lb jug since September. So with only 7 jugs left, and as much as many 450NE and 450/400 Heyms love the stuff, I was stoked that the Flanged preferred H4831 and hoping to fine tune a load with H4350 for the 500NE. I’m also going to at least try VV N540 out of curiosity.

I seriously doubt your RL15 will go to waste.

I will not it's a versatile powder. I load 375 ruger, 375 h&h, 416 rem, 458 lott and 470 ne with it.

Hey Will, tell me about that Heym with the case colored receiver?

That’s my newest toy, a Grossbox 500NE 89b. Finished first quarter of 2025, border scroll, case colored, gold Heym on frame bottom and line on barrels at the receiver. Like my 450NE, it’s a chubby gal as I prefer my doubles, 12.4lb, 15” LOP.

Been breaking her in an working up loads since I’ll likely take it to Zim in October. It arrived barely 4-5 days before I departed for Zim/Bots back in April, so it stayed behind and took my beloved 450NE.

G'day @Wildwillalaska,
What is the case coloured double with the Tiger on it? They all look nice but that one caught my eye.

Cheers Alby.
That’s a Westley Richards 1912 fixed lock in 450/400 3”. Was restored sometime back in the 90’s or 2000’s timeframe. It too was picky on regulation…shooting most combinations wide. JJ checked her out and found the barrels in good shape, slightly tight but he said in a good way, and it was ready to hunt once he adjusted the triggers and tuned up a few things back in December.

She’s also a big A-Frame fan, especially with IMR3031. Few pictures of it and the case colored Heym 500.
