I am using QL to help me with my first reloads for my new 9.3X62. QL says using Ram Shot Big Game powder I can have 65 grains and have a 96.2% fill rate producing 2529 FPS. The case length is correct at 1.19 inches. The problem is 65 grains overflows the case!!!!! I want to use the Speer 270 grain Hot Cor for my leopard hunt but with the above am having problems.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks!

My bad...bullet length is 1.19 inches. case length checks out though in QL. Also Big Game powder is so fine my powder trickler will not work...what do you use please?

I use 63 gr of Big Game with a 286 North Fork for 2505 out of a 25” barrel. It is very slightly compressed. I use standard OAL. I would not put more in with that bullet. Your Speer should be shorter than the NF so use that information as you will advisedly.

And this in Lapua brass.

I have not tried Big Game powder in my 9.3x62.

Cheers! Bob F.

If John Barsness loaded that bullet to 64 grains as above then I would consider that as max and work up to it. Of course, your rifle with your components may not be safe at 64 grains.

Also, case brands and case lots can vary in capacity. You might try a different case if available.

Id start at 60. If 65 is max load.

Always start at the recomended minimum. Worl up in .5 increments your rifle might shoot best somewhere in between min and max

I recently worked up a load for a deer hunt with the Speer 270 SSSP. I have not tried Big Game yet but used 56 grains of W748 giving me 2350fps+- in my Husky 640. That's still a couple grains below the max load per Speer's load data.

Speer does not list Big Game in their data for the 9.3x62

What brass are you using?

If my memory serves me is that hornaday and privi have the most volume and RWS and Nosler the least.

Have you checked what you can get for max over all length with the bullet you are planning on using? most 9.3x62 have a fairly long throat.

I would drop to 60gr and work up from there.

I would verify your max H2O case capacity as different brands are slightly different. It might be worth restarting Quickload to reset to default settings for 9.3X62 to be sure you didn't change any variables that will impact the results.

As other have suggested I would start low.

How does quickload work im not familiar

QuickLoad is a low cost ballistics program that helps develop handloads. It models how variables affect chamber pressure, muzzle velocity, and other performance metrics using your rifle’s specifications and component data. QuickLoad also suggests promising powder-and-bullet combinations tailored to a specific rifle, making load development faster and typically saves a lot of money in trial and error.

I would recommend it to anyone that reloads.

This is pretty much exactly what GRT gives. GRT indicates (using default specs) that 65gr is a bit over max pressure - but should give about 97% casefill. Something sounds off if the powder is overflowing the case completely - maybe just double-check/validate your scale in case something is miles off.

You should be on an accuracy node at just above 64gr (64.1gr, using the default settings) at a speed of 2,500ft/s.

Next node down is at 61.4gr at a speed of 2,402 ft/s. I think this is where I'd play, if I were you. If 2,400 ft/s won't get the job done, then 2,500 won't either.

Try a powder funnel with a long drop tube. It helps the powder settle and reduce void volume between grains.

I read and reread this post thinking my dyslexia was getting to me again, if it has I apologize; the case length for this cartridge is 2.44" not 1.19".

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
