Hi Everyone

My name is Jurie, I am 28 years old and I am born in RSA residing in Pretoria.

I have been hunting since a very young age in RSA with my father who is my mentor and thought me most of what I know about hunting today.

I am a avid season hunter and reload for all my hunting rifles.

I use the following calibers for specific reasons:

Rifle: Howa Model 1500 Laminate Thumbhole Varminter
Barrel: 24" 23mm Bull Barrel
Cal: .243 Winchester
Mounts: Lynx Bases with Lynx Medium Multimax Rings and 20MOA inserts
Scope: Redfield Revenge 6-18x44, 1" tube with 1/8 clicks adjustment
Bullet: 85gr Sierra Varminter @ 3200fps
Reason: This is my small game plains hunting rifle also for long range shooting

Rifle: Winchester Model 70 XTR
Barrel: 24" standard profile barrel
Cal: .300 Winchester Magnum
Mounts: Leupold bases and medium rings
Scope: Nikon Monarch 4-16x50, 1" tube with 1/4 clicks adjustment
Bullet: 180gr Sierra Prohunter Spitzer @ 2900 fps
Reason: This is my medium to large game plains hunting rifle

Rifle: CZ 550 Safari Classics
Barrel: 25" standard profile
Cal: .375 Holland & Holland Magnum
Mounts: Lynx medium QR scope mounts
Scope: Redfield Revolution 3-9x40, 1" tube with 1/4 clicks adjustment
Bullet: 300gr PMP RN @ 2300fps
Reason: This is my bushveld walk and stalk rifle

Being "over-gunned" to me has always been as silly as being "under-gunned." Is your Dad a member of AH as well?

Thank you Shootist43 much appreciated, next step will be to upgrade my glass on my rifles.

I have hunted all of the following species so far and quite a few of some species listed below.

Jackal, Porcupine, Warthog, Wild boar, Duiker, Spring buck, Impala, Bless buck, Mountain Reedbuck, Reedbuck, Kudu, Blue wildebeest, Fellow Deer, Water buck.

Next on my list is a Gemsbuck and Red hartebeest in the Kalahari but for next year only... this year I just want to get a Blue wildebeest as I have some meat left from last year and already hunted a nice Fellow Deer this season.

I would love to hunt a whitetail deer in the States one day and also go hunting in Alaska for a moose.

My Father is unfortunately not on AH as he is still old school lol

Welcome Jurie... always good to have more RSA boys on the site. GREAT rifle/ calibre selection that you have and this will cater for 99% of the African bush needs.

Jurie.300WM, at 73 I'm old school too. My son Art Lambart II, joined AH several months before I did. It was he that got me started. Tell your dad that the knowledge he shared with you needs to be disseminated to other hunters as well. In that way the knowledge he has gained will be passed on to a greater number of folks. AH has many members at all levels of the educational spectrum, many of which speak English as a second language. It is what they say and offer, not the words they use that counts.
