As of the last few years, I’d say yes. Lots of collectors and resellers. I want to talk with bidder 22, they should start a museum with that collection. It seemed like a super deep sale. The quality was there and some more rough models. Is this the biggest sale in the US that would have medium and big bore rifles? I think it might be.
There was a guy that had flown in from Denver that i met. I bet it is him. He was looking at everything you and I were. Did he buy the VC...because that guy loved it.Today is really like #22, #22, #22, ….and so on for basically any big bore rifles, or anything with 2-barrels. Lol.
100% agree. He has been aggressive! And successful. But wow.Bidder #22 has bought most of the rifles I marked of interest, not just ones I might bid on but ones I was curious what they might go for, including $275k for the Rigby 600NE and then $10k for the Mauser 375HH that’s effectively what Mauser had them priced at Nashville. So am overly curious/confused…mostly curious.
I agree.. Not likely a reseller based on the prices paid. Private collector with big time and money on their hands is my best guess. Either way, it's quite entertaining until he bids on something I want. lolSuccessful in buying…where I thought maybe it was one of the bigger resalers, but paying so much on some that it seemed unlikely. Several (like quite a few) seems like one well overpaid, so cannot see anyone buying for inventory. And if private collecting, they are spending an incredible amount on a very broad and eclectic mix of weapons.
Very interesting. I almost wondered for a moment in some conspiracy theory moment, if it was like anti-hunters jamming up draw systems and the like.
Same going on today. Outbid me over most everythingToday is really like #22, #22, #22, ….and so on for basically any big bore rifles, or anything with 2-barrels. Lol.
Congratulations! What did the Westley Richards 375 bring? It’s been an interesting (and very much not exciting) auction for sure.
I did manage to buy a couple bolt rifles, a Holland and Holland on Friday and then a Ryan Breeding 270…both for my initial starting bid, which leaves me wondering if I got lucky when #22 had to take a human break of some kind or missed something buying a problem or the like. Who knows.
Sounds like you had a good timeThat VC was really as nice a VC as you would find, but how in the world it yielded $35k+ is beyond me.
Even the Westley Richards 470, with BP it went for $120k. I don’t get it when Westley Richards had a super mint drop lock 577 at SCI with prettier wood and same meh engraving in a gorgeous case for $95k.
Some things will just surprise us I bet. I expected the Holland and Holland 30/06 to go above the low estimate since it had such gorgeous wood and engraving, and folks love the history when ordered by a military officer, which I get the potential historical mystique of a British officer or major American leader from WWI or WWII, but one from the late 70’s seems less significant to the rifle, still cool, but figured the corrosion and pitting all over the Holland scroll on the barrel would bring it down some…nope! Went for $4k over the high estimate before BP.
Several results just left me scratching my head and asking myself what the hell do I know. Other than a particular bolt gun I’m interested in the last day is likely going to cost me if the trend continues.
Huh. That might explain it i guess? Not sure, but I think bidder 22 may be internet bids as one of the guns referenced I purchased, but not 50 of them.
