I suspect I AM but how would I know for sure? Open to suggestions/descriptions, since I/we are all getting older. Maybe on the order of "If you think Iran should have nukes, but law abiding citizens should not have guns, you MIGHT be a Democrat" only applied to Curmudgeonery.

If your favorite Clint Eastwood quote is "GET OFF MY LAWN" (Gran Torino)

I know I am. I've known for a while, but it really hit me when I realized people who aren't bright enough to work an internet forum still get to vote. How depressing. I guess that's how a reality TV star wins 2 elections.

"Get off my lawn" is right.

OK, there are two of these threads now, someone help me out!
I kinda all ways had a bad attitude.
I think it goes back to responsibly put on at a young age.
First job gathering eggs for brakfast on free range game hens before school at 4. And having to bust ice out of the water trough in the winter. The little we had in fl.
And have to keep cows from going through gates at 5.
But most of it goes to my aunt that took mom’s place after the devorice.
A woman that lived in the depression and had the outlook of expect the worse and you will never be disappointed.
Then the years of seeing some of the worst humans do to each other.

Heavens yes. Emphatically. And have been for a while. Absolutely proud to be one.

Patrick McManus was, in my estimation, at the forefront of providing literary clarity to just what a curmudgeon is.

I was born in 1969… I’m pretty sure that by 1972 my pre school teachers had determined that I was a curmudgeon… :D

I like guns, dogs and a handful of people - but you'll notice I listed people after dogs.....
I am officially unemployable - I apparently called out the inept management at my last place of "employment" (was a contractor) in an unacceptably direct manner
I think I qualify.

some friends told me "smile don"

i told them, "i am smiling"

one guy says," well, nobody told your face"

does that make me a curmudgeon? or, just adjacent.
I smiled once. It's overrated.

Well I have been told by friends they have never seen me smile.
And others tell me there worried because I am smiling.

So Idk
I can relate to that.

Most of us Curmudgeons have that very valuable and increasing rare thing that they used to call common sense. It’s a double edged sword, but most around us are too stupid or ignorant or self absorbed to realize they are suffering from ID10T syndrome. Life is hard, but it’s harder when you’re stupid.

I wear it like a badge. Except for my grandkids.

Any evening before we head out on the town my wife gives me the same instructions:

“Remember… you promised to keep your mouth shut when topics come up that you’re highly opinionated about.”

Which is tricky… because the list of topics I’m highly opinionated about includes rifles, scopes (Do you really get what you pay for), bullets, trucks, barbecue, dogs, politics, weather forecasts, whether pineapple belongs on pizza (it doesn’t), quality steak, how to season cast-iron, pocket knives, chainsaws, boats, and the proper way to cook bacon.

So essentially my job for the evening is to sit quietly, nod occasionally, and try not to mutter “well actually…” into my bourbon.

Prior to starting my own company, every performance review I ever had, started with “you don’t know when to keep your mouth shut”

I play well with others as long as they agree with me….

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
