Talked to Steve at Hammer Bullets about the need for something that won't blow up on the Tiny Ten and he suggested the Fur Hammer.

They can basically machine nearly every standard diameter and weight to the Fur Hammer configuration, which is the nose is not drilled and punched. This makes it a slightly pointed solid. These are quite popular with coyote hunters here in the U.S., and are sold through several dealers in SA specifically for fur bearers and the Tiny Ten there.

I ordered 100 in the 92gr .257 diameter to load in Tina's 257 Roberts for Klipspringer, Duiker and Steinbok. Hammer Bullets can make special runs of this configuration in all standard bullet diameters from.172 to .338 and beyond.

Just so everyone understands, these are special run bullets, so don't even ask if they can make a sample pack of 10. I ordered 100 so there will be plenty for load development and accuracy testing.

I'm not 100% sure what they will look like, or how they perform, but I'll keep everyone tuned in. We are booked to hunt Tinies and night critters with @Green Chile in 2026, so we should be able to give them a fair field testing.

Hollow point may be an issue...

Steve will machine this special batch without the hollow point. They should look something like this.

I specifically asked him if the guys in South Africa were downloading them to minimize pelt damage. He said the guys there load them to full speed, which means I can match the trajectory of the Barnes X bullets we plan to use for Bushbuck and Impala.

I haven’t used hammer bullets but it’s nice to see they are willing to have that level of customer service still. Doesn’t look like there are any FMJ 257 options available. This should be good option for you.

Everyone suggested a .375 or larger in a solid.

A 375 H&H to shoot a 30 pound animal? Tina said NOPE!

I will be shooting a .223 with solids next week for T10 with Dieter in the East Cape.

I look forward to seeing these in the field next year. Let’s go! I need to talk someone into a honey badger so we can get a permit for one. They are so much fun to hunt.

How much lead time do they need for a Honey Badger permit? They are a little pricey for such a small critter, but then again Blue Duiker are as well.

30 days notice.

My buddy on our last trip to namibia which was going to include the tiny 10, had hammer bullets make him a solid for his 22 hornet,...worked like a dream

That's excellent news.

It was fantastic to actually talk to one of the top people that run a Company, and get not just a friendly response, but a total willingness to custom build a product for a special purpose.

Absolutely SUPERB customer service by Hammer Bullets.

Wife and I have used Hammer bullets on two trips to Namibia. They worked great on all shots. Glad to hear about the bullets for tiny 10, Miranda shot 3 of the 10 this last trip.

With the custom bullets, was there any loading advice given...to reduce by X or anything like that?

I asked Steve at Hammer Bullets about that. He said in South Africa they use them loaded up to full speed with small holes in, small holes out.

I have taken about 10 plains game and 2 cape buffalo with Hammer Bullets with no complains or issues, but wish we could talk Steve into making a 404 gr stone SOLID.

I think if we ordered a batch large enough to make it worth his while, it could happen.

No he thinks the 404 stone hammer is good enough and is not needed as the shank acts as a solid after it shreds the pedals.
Wonder what the remaining weight is after the petals are gone?

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
