Good morning, my wife has talked me into going on a cruise in March. We will be at the Port of Palm Beach. When we travel, I always take my everyday carry. I cannot take this on the cruise, so I was hoping for a recommendation of either a gun store that I could leave it with until we got back from the cruise or a gracious AH member that may be in the area that would be willing hold onto it for a few days for me. We will be staying in Palm Beach a couple of days before and after.Any advice that you have would be great, thanks in advance.

Leave it at Mar-A-Lago. I am sure one of the Secret Service Officers will take care of it for you till you return.

If I was going to do that. I would look for a gun smith and get them to clean the gun and pick it back up when you get back.

You could always pawn it get some extra money and then retrieve it on your return.

But seriously I would just leave it at home and I have a firearm with me 99% of the time that I travel.

Your best and safest option is to contact a local FFL (gun store) in the West Palm Beach area and ask about short‑term storage. Many shops will hold a firearm for a few days for a small fee, though you may need to complete a temporary transfer when dropping it off and again when picking it up. Call ahead to confirm their policy. I would strongly avoid leaving it with a private individual unless you’re certain it complies with Florida law, as transfers can trigger legal requirements. Also remember firearms are prohibited on port property and cruise terminals, so make sure it’s stored before you arrive at the port.

The last time we went on a cruise, we parked our vehicle in the hotel parking lot which was cheaper than parking at the shipping terminal. I kept my pistol locked in a metal storage container hidden in the spare tire compartment rear cargo of our SUV. Perhaps not ideal but that’s what we did.

That’s why I was thinking a gunsmith to do work cleaning is work.
From what I was told by a gunshop if it’s not getting work by the gunsmith.
It has to go on the shops book.
Well I believe you have to be a fl citizen to buy a handgun in fl.
And you have to do all paperwork if it goes into the gun shops book.

I could be wrong on that. But it’s what I was told years ago.

One of the many reasons I will not go on a cruise.
unarmed in places that laws and legal guidelines can me touch and go.
Nope not for me.

You can't take it with you so you may consider leaving it at home. I've locked mine in my trunk before.

BEEN YEARS NOW BUT BACK WHEN I WAS GOING IN AND OUT OF PORT OF EVERGADES FOR WORK IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF HANDING THE OFFICER AN UNLOADED HANDGUN RECIEVING A "KEY" AND PICKING BACK UP ON THE WAY OUT.

If we were just going for the cruise and right back home I may do that, but we are going to be there for several days on both sides of the cruise, so I would prefer to take it.

I would still just leave it at home.

The odds of you actually needing it are so far out there that I'd still just leave it home.

MOST HOTELS HAVE A STAY AND FLY/SAIL PACKAGE WERE YOU STAY FOR A NIGHT AND LEAVE YOUR CAR IN THEIR PARKING LOT. ALWAYS WAS SAFE FOR ME BUT I WOULD CARRY ONE I COULD AFFORD TO LOSE AND JUST LEAVE IT UNDER THE SEAT. SHUTTLE IS USUALLY INCLUDED.
WE ARE IN NAPLES, FL YOUR WELCOME TO OUR SAFES BUT IT IS A BIT OF A DRIVE FROM WPB.

This is what we did, I didn’t explain it very well previously. I would only recommend a metal lock box hidden inside your vehicle and not placing it unsecured inside. I used one like this for a Glock 26 9mm.

Then why carry at all?
If you’re playing the odds?
There are times and with the decisions that you make that you need to just trust the odds.

Do you take your firearm into a building where it isn't allowed such as a school, church, or other places that it isn't allowed?

When the plans were made to take a cruse it should of been planned for. Why not fly down, get a shuttle to the docks and enjoy the cruse and forget about side trips before and after the cruse.

NO. STICK IT UNDER THE SEAT AND GO IN. COME OUT AND BACK IN HOLSTER.

I think it’s really an individuals personal decision if one desires to lawfully carry a concealed weapon. The OP’s dilemma, isn’t uncommon. He has received some advice and can decide on how to proceed.

To others who subscribe to leaving the pistol unsecured underneath the car seat I wouldn’t recommend, at least have some additional level of security like an inexpensive metal lockbox with cable so if the mentally ill homeless person smashes the window, it makes it a little more difficult to acquire the weapon plus I believe it is a requirement in Florida to have the weapon secured if it’s not on your person.

I carry in church. Never heard of a law prohibiting carrying into a church or been asked to leave worship for carrying.
