Gun Case - Have I outsmarted myself?

Hahahaha....sounds like you know my friends. I’m truly disappointed that 17 posts into this....no smartass has thrown in a Dr. Evil/Austin Powers comment!
Dammit I was just about to say something about fickin’ seabass with lasers on their heads!

I’m working on that. Trying to figure out how to keep the water oxygen level and salinity correct.......

A number of years ago I was a JoBerg picking up my Tuffpak at the firearms office and the guy in front of me had a golf bag hard case the he used for his firearms as everone would think it was golf clubs.

So, after reading multiple threads regarding taking gun cases through hotel lobbies, anti-hunting employees at airports, etc.....I started thinking, which is normally counterproductive .

I recently acquired an Americase 2 Gun Case (special thanks to @CAustin for guidance). It is similar to the Tuff Pak from the standpoint that it doesn’t overtly appear to be a gun case. Not as discreet as the Tuff Pak, but doesn’t “scream” firearm.

One could further “disguise” this case with simple labels. I haven’t put them on, but the photo shows my concept. I have mixed feelings on this, as “pricey equipment” could perhaps be more of a theft target than a firearm (easier to sell?).

Therefore, asking the opinion of the Learned Experts here on the forum. Good or bad idea?

hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Looks like we’re building a consensus.....anyone need 3 nice, quality stock laser equipment labels?

It seems you've already changed your mind. But just in case, I do wonder what the customs guys would think about a case with "Laser Equipment" plastered all over it. I'm sure they'd once they saw the contents realize that's not what's in the case, but why bring that much more gov't attention to yourself?

And just because fish got mentioned:

My gun case , a cabelas double has hunting stickers and bear tracks. Various hoof prints and stickers of places it hunted!
I didn't get the memo we should be incognito, LOL.

Is that a guitar in your case ?

That was the only question I was asked while traveling with my rifle.

The Golf Club Case for a rifle is actually a pretty good ruse. Lots of people travel to and in RSA with clubs so no one would suspect that it contains firearms. My R8 Professional Case, based on a Pelican Case, is very short and compact and does not look anything like a rifle case. Upon my arrival in camp, some have wondered where my rifle was.

We took a "Boyt" double case to Namibia ..After the return home it looks like it just came from factory....I'm sure it was pitched around but it sure took care of our rifles..Pretty much indestructible...It weighed 47 #s on airport scale with both rifles ....limit is 50# or an overcharge.

A couple of labels saying “Frozen Sperm Samples” should, I imagine, deter most thieves.

Unless flying into San Francisco!

God,, My SKB has an Africa Hunting Decal on it along with a bunch other hunting decals

I use Boyd and Pelican as well. Like both. I recently had the airlines destroy a new Pelican suitcase....have no idea how, but they did. The one I pictured (Americase) is 48.5 Lbs....2 rifles, accessories, locks and name tag. I was very attentive to weight and size in researching this case. Yep, want to stay away from the overcharge fees.

Watch the person at the check in that they don't put their thumb onto the scale and that it goes over the 50lbs.

I had weighed my suitcase a few times and it was right at 45lbs. Funny thing that when they placed it onto the airlines scale it came in at 52lbs.

@JimP....I have seen scales off as well at the counter. Got to watch these folks...unfortunately. Never seen 7 lbs off though, my goodness!

My SKB 2 gun case has been to RSA 3 times and in and out of JFK and Joberg on all of those trips. No one has ever given it a second glance. My last trip I spent all day at JFK with it and my other gear on a cart and not even the cops gave it a second look. Two of them did escort me through TSA and Special Checkin, though. Maybe my Freemason and Maine, The Way Life Should Be stickers helped.

I thought about putting stickers on mine for the baggage handlers that say "DANGER - FRAGILE EXPLOSIVES" but figured TSA and the airlines wouldn't appreciate the ruse!

As for being incognito, guys walking around the airports in camo crack me up. Like their hunt has already started and they might see a kudu or a brown bear dash out from behind the TSA scanners! I feel like saying, "Dude, your not going to see a kudu or a bear in the airport and your rifle is packed away so lay off the camo!" It takes about two days of travel to get to some camps and these jokers are in camo already. Funny.
