Just wanted to take the time to introduce myself shortly. I have been reading the forum for some time and it surely is a wealth of knowledge and experience. So first; thank you!
I have booked my first safari and it will take place in May 2022 in South Africa. Cape Buffalo, Kudu and some other plains game is on the menu, and I could not be more excited.
At 32, I have hunted for approx seven years now. Mostly small game with my trusted old dog (roe deer, hare, an occasional fox) but also some fallow deer, red deer, boar and of course moose. I have been dreaming of Africa for a long time though and when the opportunity presented itself, I seized it.
I am now plowing through all kinds of literature; from Hemingway and Capstick to Ruark and Blixen.
In a few weeks I will also get my .416 Rem Mag and after that a .375 H&H, both of which I will bring with me. As for now I primarily hunt with my old M98 chambered in 9,3x57 and my drilling chambered in 8x57IRS/16 gauge. I want as much training as possible with the bigger bores before the trip so I can't wait for them to arrive. I will also hunt with them extensively prior to the safari (although .416 might be a bit overkill for moose...) The .375 is of course a nice moose, boar and driven hunt caliber in its own right.
Anyway, thanks again for this amazing forum. See you out there!
