Greatest athlete of modern times

George Digweed: world champion over 5 different decades… I doubt anyone else would have the longevity in a sport as he has.
I’ve copied the below but awesome accolades
In a historic feat, George achieved an unprecedented milestone in 2015 by winning three World Titles—The World Sporting, The World FITASC, and the World Compak – this has never been done in the history of Shooting. He also boasts an impressive record, securing 30 world titles (16 Sporting, 12 Fitasc, and 2 Compak), along with 19 European titles (15 Fitasc and 4 Compak), 4 European Compak titles, and 14 world cups.
In July 2023, George secured another World Title at FITASC, adding to his impressive collection of 4 current World Records. With the most World Championship Titles in the history of any sport, George has achieved unparalleled success.
This also makes him the only person to have won world shooting titles in 5 decades: 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s and 20’s
He achieved another historic milestone as the first man to shoot ‘100 straight’ in a World Championship event. In October 2011, during filming for a Fieldsports Channel TV program, he surpassed his own record set in America, breaking a clay at 130 yards using standard cartridges, surpassing his previous mark of 118 yards.

MJ, Bolt or Ali maybe
@SStomcat - well both MJ & Bolt had a Harder PUNCH than Ali. Boxers are usually incredibly well conditioned athletes but rarely a well rounded versatile athlete

Thorpe played professional football until he was 56 if memory serves.
Before the modern times there were bare knuckled boxers who went as many as 50 rounds.

Greatest fighter, all weight classes competing, Royce Gracie, without a doubt.

I'd dare any football player to run as much as those pro soccer players do in a game without passing out.
@Tanks - I admire what they can do, soccer players are in incredible physical condition and stronger then most people think. I just can’t watch the game and enjoy 2 hours and only ONE Goal ! Basketball sores are too high and the NFL is getting ther too —— but ONE Goal a game? And a game ending with a score of 3 to 2 is “high scoring”? I admit I am too ignorant of the soccer skills and strategy to fully appreciate the subtleties that make the game great - but escape me

That's right. Caitlyn Jenner isn't half the man Kevin Mayer is. Hahahahaha

I agree with today’s football players. But the old school coaches like. Bryant, Dye and Dooly to name three had their guys in tip top shape , they ran the shit out of those guys .
In today’s game the players get a lot of their conditioning from the pace of the practice.

Well I think there is a fine line here. To me athlete is one who is into athletcs all others could be clubbed as sportsmen/women. Reinhold Meissner for example is a mountaneer probably not a athelete.

She seems like the GOAT female climber.

Did she do all 14 without Oxygen the way Reinhold did?

Aah, no. Soccer IS football. It's the same thing. The other thing is "hand-egg". ;)
Soccer is called football in almost every European country along with most of the world.

Funny enough, I was listening to a local sports radio station this morning, and one of the hosts suggested cyclist Tadej Pogačar. The host is a cyclist himself, so clearly has a bias, but made an interesting argument on how dominant he is to his sport and how many different areas he is good at.

It's nearly impossible to compare from one sport to another for best athlete, as they require different disciplines to be great. Perhaps Jim Thorpe or Bo Jackson as multi-sport greats. Perhaps Gretzky as the most clear and obvious, undisputed GOAT of his sport.
I heard junior say the same thing. That’s why I mentioned him. I think he’s right.

I'd dare any soccer player to step into an octogon or boxing ring.

I would bet that Bo Jackson could have been good at anything when he was in his prime.

A cyclist in the octagon would be sight to see!

I agree with the Bo Jackson sentiment. He was a highlight reel in the NFL and MLB. I have no doubt he would have been world class in most any other sport he tried.

My dad was a high school football coach. The school he was coaching played Bo Jackson many years before. We found old 16mm of the game they played hidden away in the field house. Was a real treat to watch.

@Safari Dave - I get your point and anyone NOT trained as an MMA fighter is highly likely to LOSE badly in the Octagon. As well, any MMA Fighter will get annihilated in a Boxing Ring with a top pro boxer in the same weight class —- these are highly specialized skills. Pro Boxers laugh at the way MMA fighters throw punches, of course Pro Boxers aren’t use to getting “Choked & kicked” either —-different games.
