Good Gun Deals This Week

@Todd_1
A Winchester Model 70 Classic is a modern controlled round feed (CRF) action and can be bought in .375 H&H for approximately $2000. A good friend and AH member has shot over 150 head of African animals from the tiny duiker to a bull elephant with this basic rifle.

Dangerous game rifle (DGR) prices are finally rising due to inflation but here's one from a respected dealer for $2000,

The push feed M70's and others are generally less than $2k. There is nothing wrong with them except in our dreams when we are on our backs working another round into the chamber to save us from dangerous beasts... Most people want CRF over push feed rifles.

At $4k bolt action rifles start to be very nice. $6k to $8k will buy a gun of a lifetime. From there a used Heym or Rigby from $15k to over $20k are 98% as nice as can be built. To reach the mythical perfect bolt action that is as nice or fine as ever built, better figure $30k.

A quality double rifle for dangerous game start at around $13k to $15k.
The Model 70 in @Mark A Ouellette post was mfg in 1997 which is supposed to be a good year for New Haven DG rifles. I have a 1998 New Haven 375 fwiw.

A trip to the Gun Smith Spa could definitely turn this one into a "Gun of a lifetime" for sure!

Someone here was looking for a small bore DR

This is the best deal I’ve seen on a rifle in a long time. A WR drop lock. In a practical caliber. With a lot of provenance. My book on WR has 4 pages dedicated to the Maharaja of Alwar

Pretty cool gun. One bit of caution on it, they mention in the video a small crack in the wood directly behind the action. The drop locks are sexy...

Yeah their primary benefit. The fast follow up shot is almost moot on small PG
But quality magazine rifles are now priced above this DR.

IF it shoots, it’s a steal.

Thanks Altitude, it is a super nice rifle with a great history. It also has almost no recoil when shooting. Fun little gun and great caliber. The only reason I am selling is because I have a vintage small bore Rigby Rising Bite that makes this one a little redundant in my collection.

Also, the small crack behind the tang appears to have been stabilised a long time ago. My guess would be that it was done by Westley Richards when they did the conversion and fitted the scope mounts decades ago.

Man, I sure would like to see that Rising bite. I snoozed too long on a shotgun with a rising bite. I was tempted to buy. And it sold before I could convince myself
to buy it.

From the photos, looks like the rifle was originally purchased from Holt’s?

Also I estimate when the new owner sends this to JJ Perodeau it will cost $1500 to $2000 to be made perfect mechanically regardless of the ad. I have this exact Rigby same class serial number same year but now with 26 inch barrels (rebarreled) truth be told I like 24 inch. 28 inches just too long for me

That is a great deal. At DSC I went over to Mr. Peter hofer’s booth and never realized how cool small doubles could be. Or how much I wanted something I didn’t need. Price killed that dream and made me look at chapius in 30-06

Can you please explain what you meant by this? I Googled Gun Smith Spa and didn't get anything. What would you have done to a rifle such as the one posted by @Mark A Ouellette (Winchester Model 70 in 375 H&H Mag.) in order to have the gun of a lifetime?

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
