Good Gun Deals This Week

Not to sound critical, but is that your "blind"?
I hunted in that same area (Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa) for a number of years, the deer are so plentiful in many areas there you really don’t even need anything to hide yourself. I’ve never used a blind, never worn camo, never used a scent blocker. I averaged 3-4 deer a year in the Midwest as a whole, some years much more, one year didn’t harvest any. I just walk around the woods and find them. No sense sitting and waiting for the deer to come to you when you can go out and look for them. I see the most deer when I’m not being sneaky, but just walk 10 or so steps and stop and wait for 30 seconds, rinse and repeat. Something about the stopping seems to make them over confident and you can get a lot closer than you’d think even with less than favorable wind.

So yeah I have no doubts he is incredibly successful, that looks like a great spot for deer to cross; and with a shooting bench and a good marksman success isn’t guaranteed, but it’s a pretty darn high chance.

I used a Woodleigh 1000g soft nose - shot him lengthwise in the low neck-high chest, and found the bullet under the hide in his butt cheek.

I imagine the term “pole axed him” would have been appropriate for the buck’s reaction to the impact? And likely didn’t take a lot of tracking skills to recover it :)

Awesome…

Looks like it may be too good to be true. I sent the seller a message. No experience with Texas Gun Trader, so I will tread lightly.
That’s what I thought too.

As I was surfing around this morning drinking my morning coffee, I stumbled across a left-handed Ruger MkII in 270 Win for $629 at the Cabela's in Boise. It was such a good price that I almost missed it because it was mixed in with the lower-priced Savages & milsurp rifles at the bottom of the list:

I was seriously considering just buying it as a donor rifle to build something else as a project but I'm trying to fight the temptation. I always thought it would be fun to add an ebony tip to the stock, a barrel band & iron sights to create my own left-handed "Ruger African" in something like 35 Whelen or 9.3x62.

While I'm over here having a battle with my lack of willpower when it comes to buying rifles, I thought I would give the other AH members an opportunity to save me from myself. I like finding good buys at Cabela's because I can have it transferred to my local Bass Pro for free & I don't have to pay FFL fees.

Saw this 458 Win Mag on GunsInternational. Really a smart looking safari rifle.

Neal Lane is a great guy. Buy with confidence there. I went to his house which doubles as his business. He deals in some amazing rifles.

I located a mauser actioned rifle in 308 Win with “Forest” stamped on the action. It has double set triggers and lever style floor plate release. I can’t find a thing about “Forest” other than a German company. At $1300 I’m not sure what to think. Does anyone know about Forest rifles ?

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
