Good day from Louisiana

Yes sir Bob you are the one that enlightened me on the virtues of the 35 whelen. Dad and I have enjoyed discussing the performance that cartridge is capable of. It is surprisingly soft shooting for the power it’s got.
@Close Range
When you load the Whelen up to 2,700 fps with the 250s it takes some of the softness out of it.
One bullet I found that really rocks game is the 250 grain Hornaday roundnose. The Oryx I shot you could see his whole body shake from the hit and it left a golf ball sized hole out the other side.
The 225grain nosler accubonds give fantastic performance and @Shootist43 loves how the 225 grain Barnes TSX works well @2,800 fps.
Bob.

I do have a 25-06 that I wore the barrel out on that I talked to JES about drilling it out to 33 or 35 cal but somehow it just hasn’t got done
@Close Range
Get another 25/06 barrel and load it with the 100 grain Barnes TTSX to 3,400fps. That will make it one flat shooting SOB out to 400 yards and make it a perfect deer rifle for any sane range.

My 25 was also a weatherby vanguard that I only paid $440 for with the ... ugly stock non free floating barrel and about a 6-8 lb trigger. My go to load. 56 gr RL22 and 100 gr ttsx would put 3 in .5 moa with boring regularity day in day out. Any bullet any load to the same point of impact. Also shot a 1”@100 yds with a 117 gr hornady soft point with the barrel way to hot to touch.

I killed many a deer with it but became dissatisfied with the lack of blood trails and have since become spoiled with the authority that my .338 has.

Welcome to the posting side on AH! I too love my .338WM Browning A Bolt. Have taken a number of elk with it. One fine cartridge!

That's why I like the 25s they don't seem to care what you feed them they are usually very accurate the 100 grain Barnes TTSX or the 110grain accubonds should leave a blood trail.
