Okay my friends, I finally have the date and details for our first Big Bore Shoot as follows:
Date: Saturday March 14, 2026
Location: My 40-acre farm located at 147 Robert Hodnett Road, Pine Mountain, GA 31822 about 85 miles south of Atlanta and 50 miles North of Montgomery AL.
Details: Robert Hodnett road (named for my grandfather) is a straight 500-yard road up a hill. You will see the same Africa Hunting.com Dinner sign you will see at both DSC and SCI at the top of the hill, so you know you are in the right place. I will have orange cones for you to simply follow to the bottom of one of my fields where the shooting launch area will be. I have marked off and set up 6 stations from 25 to 70 yards for us to shoot in my woods to simulate Jess yet should not be hard for anyone to walk. All have hills for backstops for safety. I have bought The Big 5 targets that will be set up at each of the 6. I am thinking each person could go through 2 times so if you shot twice per target that would be a total of 4 shots X 6 targets means you would shoot a potential of 24 times which should be plenty given it is only for big bore rifles. Depending on number of people I can set up a group of 4 at a time are my thoughts depending on how people are coming.
What This Is Not: This is not any type of competition!!! There is no scoring whatsoever...it is strictly for fun!!! The definition for Big Bore will be 9.3 X 62 and up...no 30-06 or 300 WM, etc. please.
Food:
I recommend if you want to eat you go to the small town of Pine Mountain for some of the very best barbecue before or after the shoot.
What I Need: So sorry but I will have to have a signed waiver for each person to shoot...I will have a table set up with the waivers for each person to sign if they want to shoot. So I can think through the final set up I do need anyone planning to come to please just RSP me on this thread please before coming.

Looking forward to it!!!

Sounds interesting. I wasn't aware you were working on something like this. Are you thinking offhand or from sticks or ....? It doesn't sound timed or scored. Single shots on target? Or maybe 2 shots per target to practice follow-up? You've got me thinking...would be fun to fly in Fri after work and hang out for a day.

I plan on being there for sure. I plan on asking my son-in-law if he would like to come. It should be a great time. As @Hooked Now mentioned, let us know if there is anything we can do to help offset some of your set up costs @Rare Breed.

I'll be there and will be happy to assist with any grunt work.

Dang, I won't be able to make it. I'm already double booked that day.

Also, I'm not sure that I would have my double. I'm about to send it up to Krieghoff to have 20ga barrels installed and I'm not sure if I will have it back.

Yall have fun!!

I’m about 90% sure I can come to the shoot, can’t wait.

At the moment I’m trying to source some “cheaper” .416 ammo, any restrictions on solids?
Thanks,
David

Ok! I have received a return PM from @Rare Breed; and with his permission, I can offer those who want to attend this shoot that don't own a big bore a chance to shoot a 375 H&H and/or 458WM.

If all goes well and I can attend the shoot as planned, I will be bringing and offering a 375H&H and 2 - 458WMs to include ammo for those that want to join in on this big bore shoot.

Now there's only a work schedule conflict excuse for anyone in the area not to meet and greet other AH members in the area.

Let's have some fun and show our appreciation for @Rare Breeds hosting a big bore shoot.

I plan on having left handed bolt action rifles in 9.3x62 and 416 Rem there. I can also bring left handed 375H&H rifles that somebody would be welcome to use. So if your a lefty but don’t have a rifle in an appropriate chambering, don’t let that stop you if you’d like to come shoot. I’ll be happy to share.

your the best Ridge Runner!!! I too am bringing my Rigby HS in 9.3x62 and Rigby 450 NE DR both with plenty of ammo for people to shoot if desired. The message is don’t let you not owning a big bore prevent you from coming and shooting!!! We will have big bore guns for you to shoot!!!

I will be providing close in hotels very close to my farm and very comfortable if people want to spend the night

If I’m able to come, I could bring a 375 and 416 for others to experience, whether we are shooting in the same squad or not.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
