ACTION ALERT #1–
AB 96 (Ivory and Rhinoceros Horn)

AB 96 (Atkins) Animal parts and products: importation or sale of ivory and rhinoceros horn passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee today, August 27, 2016, and will go to the Senate Floor. SCI has written a letter in opposition of this bill. It could be heard as early as next Tuesday, September 1st.

AB 96, if passed, would delete the exemption provided by current law allowing the possession with intent to sell, or sale of, ivory from any elephant and other specified ivory bearing species, including mastodon, walrus, and warthog, rhinoceros horn, or other body parts from these species that were legally obtained before June 1, 1977, or the possession with intent to sell or the sale of any such item on or after June 1, 1977, if the item was imported before January 1, 1977. The bill would completely ban the sale of any item made with ivory or rhinoceros horn, except antiques that can be documented to be at least 100 years old and which have less than five percent by volume of ivory or rhinoceros horn, and musical instruments manufactured before 1975 that have less than twenty percent by volume of ivory or rhinoceros horn.

If this bill passes the Senate, it will go back to the Assembly for concurrence with Senate amendments. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATOR AND ASSEMBLY MEMBER NOW! If you don’t know who your assembly member and senator are, go to http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/, type in your address, and the names will appear. It could be heard as early as next Tuesday, September 1st. SCI California Chapters have written a letter in opposition of this bill. Although the amendments have narrowed some of the categories, we still oppose the bill because it would not change provisions opposed by SCI and it would serve as a precedent for adding additional non-violent misdemeanors that could cause California citizens the loss of lawful firearms. I am so thankful my family moved from California when I was young.

we left the republic of calif in 2007 and moved to a real state.IDAHO!!!

Pretty soon a gun owner will not be able to live in Kal. Be too restrictive and every move you make will be illegal. They can have my share of it. I should talk though. Up in Washington while better than Kal, its being overrun with libtard loons especially in the cities. They used to call Seattle, San Francisco light. I call it San Francisco north! Not much difference. You have a loon liberal gay mayor, with socialists and commies on the city council. The unions tell them what to do, and they do it. King County (Seattle), has become a nightmare in so many ways. I was born and raised in Seattle and grew up there in the late 50's and 60's, when it was still a pretty neat town. Now its a s**thole! Its why I moved north to a better county 25 years ago.
