Agreed, I have a few im holding onto and they're quite stunning.

I'm not familiar with the changes in action length of the newer M 70s. Is the "long" action longer than the previous standard M 70?

Long action has been the same since 64. They added the short action in the 80's. The 25-06 to the 470 Capstick all used the same action.

Now they DID switch from a 2 piece bottom metal to a 1 piece when they reopened in South Carolina. You can get a spacer for about 15 bucks

This is true. Talley is producing the swivels cheaper and nicer than the old Winchester pieces. Crossbolts are pretty easy to find on ebay. Need to buy another set myself

Be careful with Talleys If I remember correctly they come in 2 sizes pre 64 and post 64,, cross bolts are easy and you can find some deluxe bolts on E-bay
