I just noticed the "Made in USA . . . Assembled in Portugal" on the barrel. Can anyone explain what that means and why it would be done? I assume it's about money (as always), but surely if the pieces are made in the US, putting it together is the easy part?
Hank, not sure when Winchester started doing this, but the parts are now manufactured in the SC plant and sent to a Browning plant in Portugal for assembly. I'm not sure whether this is all Winchester production or just some of it. Given enough volume, I suppose this could be more cost effective than 100% production in the SC plant.
