Your OP indicates shellholder not included, but the pic shows a shellhodler in the box. May I assume SH#20 is included in the sale?

Basically there are 2 45s with Colt involvement. There is the 45 Automatic Colt Pistol (45ACP) generally involving a 1911 style pistol and there is the 45 long Colt, a rimmed cartridge generally used in revolvers such as the Colt Single Action. I'm guessing that the dies in question are for the latter.

Was there a .45 short Colt?
From my reading, there was a time when the US army issued both the Colt SAA and the smith and Wesson Schofield revolvers. They issued cartridges called the 45 colt government, which was shorter than the original 45 colt.
So I guess you could consider one short and long, but in the last hundred years there has only been the long version available.

Well these are two different books by Elmer Keith on the subject. You can see the first one from “Sixgun Cartridges and Loads” makes sure to note that it’s the long case version in the illustration.
The second picture taken from “Sixguns” indicates that for a time there was a short version.
It may not be incorrect to call it a 45 long colt, but it’s probably unnecessary in the 21s century.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
