Firearms and travel through Dubai

When Joyce and I head over in 2015 we are going to fly Emirates through Dubai. I'm familiar with the paperwork needed for the transit but what I can not find out is has anyone chosen to stay in Dubai for a few days on the leg in or out of Africa while traveling with firearms?

The top of the form says...
1) Transiting DBX
2) Terminating in DBX
3) Breaking Journey in DBX


That makes it sound doable as far as a few days sightseeing. I would just feel better about this plan if I actually could find someone who's already done this.
