I have a rifle with claw mounts and a very old scope, it all works fine.
I was recently given a newer scope that I'd like to replace the old scope with.
New holes will need to be drilled in the rail of the scope where the screws go through.
I don't know of anyone around here that does that sort of thing, which got me wondering....How hard can it be to drill a couple of holes....
I Imagine that the slanted/sloped shape of the rail will make the drill bit want to jump/slide towards the scope tube a little bit.

Have any of you ever done something like that?

You would have to post photos. There are several ways that claw mounts attache to scopes.

Usually the rail has bolts that go through the bottom, and the rail is drilled and tapped for the mounts.

In new mounts, the rail is fits into a recess in the bottom of the rail. Your rail mounts are probably SEM type.

I would heavily

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
