'Got the Governor's Kermode bear permit in the mail yesterday.

That’s awesome, but I’m confused, I thought that they were only in BC? The reason I ask is because BC doesn’t have a governor. Are they also in the US?

Thanks for the encouragement, but it's not about applying for just any unit. I am working with two different outfitters and they both have recommended certain units to apply.

For moose, I applied for Area 25, around Pinedale. There were 8 non-resident tags and 22 points had 100% chance of drawing as there were 4 applicants. The 21 point group had 17 applicants for the remaining 4 tags, so 23.53% chance to draw.

For Big Horn Sheep, I need to decide if I am going to stay in the chase and buy another pref point this year. I'm thinking about walking away from this altogether. The 22 point group, 17 applicants, had a 35% chance to draw 3 tags in Area 3. The group with less than 22 points had 0% chance.

Ahh, yes .... you're trying for two of the top rated units and if I'm not mistaken both of them have also been discussed as being most likely to produce a record book animal.

I'm a bit behind you and being in my early 30's will probably not try to hold out for the top units. I'll likely try to cash in on one of the first decent units I can draw. If I was in your position I'd keep holding out. Points creep shouldn't really impact you at this point. For those of us 8-10 points behind you we can almost double the time it takes you for that unit before we'll draw.

I live in Casper. If you need any help or information, let me know .
@WyoBull thank you very much for the offer. I am hunting with SNS Outfitters and with the same guide I had in 2018. They take pretty good care of their clients. I believe the meat processor was called Pat's Meat and they did a great job and had everything ready to go the day I flew home.

The whole deal for non-resident tags in Wyoming is in a state of flux and probably not for the better of non-residents. Historically, I think 20% of the available tags were allocated to non-residents. Wyoming is considering changing this to 10%. That's the bad news. Potential good news is there might be an increase to landowner tags.

Wyoming Task Force

Potential change to the pref point system. Interesting to note that the Task Force's vote on this was not unanimous. An earlier letter stated that the Task Force would only move forward on recommendations only if by unanimous vote.

For moose, sheep, and goat the legislature already passed the 90/10 split. It will go into effect next year along with a once-in-a-lifetime limitation on bull, ram, and billy tags. The Task Force is currently considering 90/10 for high demand areas for elk, deer, and antelope, but the recommendations have not come out yet.

You are correct on both accounts, though they probably have some Governours of some sort. It was a joke. LOL I believe the white "spirit bear" are still protected.

I've been paying pretty close attention to it. Not super excited by the proposed changes. A lot of the F&G Revenue comes from Non-Res Licenses, so we'll see what that translates to in new License/Tag fees and costs.

I knew my chances were not good in Wyoming:

Goat - NO (that was a pipe dream anyway)
Elk - NO (The random draw general was better than anything I could do with my 4 PP's)
Deer - NO (Again, random draw, general had better odds than I could get with my 4 PP's)

Now, considering going to Colorado to a place I've never seen before and doing an OTC in mid-October

What unit? I've hunted Colorado a few times OTC. I've also hunted Idaho several times. Depending on the unit someone might be willing to throw a few tips your way.

I’m a non resident to Wyoming and lean toward agreeing with them. Some units you never see resident license plates-just us foreigners. So the locals get fairy screwed on tags and quality of hunt.
what bothers me is the years I will have wasted when they do change the law.
the bulk of the argument is from outfitters who make all their money from out of state.

I have a couple of member on this forum helping me, so pardon me if I won't disclose the particular units.

What I'm looking for is a place with mountain ridges, where we can hike ridges and glass the sides of other mountains.

When we find elk, we stalk into shooting range.

We've done this with success in New Mexico, but never in Colorado.

Any advice would be appreciated!

My teenage daughter drew a good cow elk tag (Deseret) and I drew a two doe deer tag-an agricultural depredation hunt. Might be a fun autumn after all and lots of jerky for friends at Christmas

I've got general tags for bear and deer in Idaho, and I drew a Pronghorn archery tag. Never even shot a bow before, so I have some practicing to do.

You're going to want to get set-up ASAP. You're either going to want to try and hunt them over a water hole for close shots since sport and stalk will likely yield some extremely long shots

I've been going back and forth on whether or not I even want to start the archery hunting hobby. It's a whole additional skill set. I will typically pass on a high-risk shot, so I'd have to get pretty close before I feel comfortable launching arrows downrange.
