Dear Traveller

SAA (South African Airways) will resume services on the following routes:
From 23rd of September 2021: Johannesburg - Cape Town return x3/daily
From 27th September 2021: Johannesburg to:
  • Accra - x3/weekly
  • Kinshasa - x3/weekly
  • Harare - x1/daily
  • Lusaka - x1/daily
  • Maputo - x1/daily
More destinations will be added to the route network as it ramps up operations in response to market conditions.

If you are holding a South African Airways confirmed ticket (ticket number beginning with 083) with unused flights purchased prior to 24 March 2020 for travel after 25 March 2020 up until 26 August 2021 you now have the following options:
  1. Rebook now with Travelstart for future SAA flights on one of the operating routes above – travel must be on/before 31 March 2023 – open unused tickets may be reissued to a new SAA operated route. The full value of these unused tickets can be redeemed as payment towards a new travel itinerary on any SAA operated flight across their route network – any difference in fare and taxes will need to be paid by you if the cost of your new ticket (amount paid to airline) is higher than the original ticket value. To rebook please select: Change my booking and click here
  2. Keep flight suspended to travel in future - must travel on/before 31 March 2023.When you are ready to rebook your new dates: select: Change my booking and click here
  3. Nominate a new traveller – you will need to do this online with SAA directly. You will need the name as per ID/Passport of the new traveller and your original airline booking reference and your original ticket number, this information is found on your Travelstart E-ticket email. https://www.flysaa.com/za/en/voucherApplication.action
  4. Submit your ticket for a refund – The refunds team at SAA are currently managing all refund requests in the order they are received, however, due to a reduced workforce and stringent COVID protocols this process is slower than anticipated. We cannot give you a timeline of when refunds will be actioned by SAA.
    • Tickets issued for travel prior to 05 Dec 2019 will be subject to fare rules meaning airline penalties will apply.
    • Tickets issued for travel after 06 Dec 2019 until 25 March 2020 will be subject to fare rules meaning airline penalties will apply.
    • Tickets issued for travel from 25 March 2020 up to and including 25 August 2021 are fully refundable.
Exception:
Tickets with Airlink flights (flight number starting with SA 8xxx) will only qualify for a refund if the ticket was issued prior to 6 December 2019 alternatively you can rebook these tickets on SAA operated flights.

Tickets with SA Express flights (flight number starting with SA 1xxx) can be used for new bookings on SAA operated flights.

All tickets with Airlink issued after 06 December 2019 and SA Express flights are unfortunately non-refundable.

To submit your ticket for a refund please select: Covid 19 Booking cancellation and click here

Im glad to read that they havnt gone under. Its the best airline for us brits to use when going to SA. Its a just a nice direct overnight flight with no bother apart form the new $50 carriage charge for rifles. Or is it $100. I cant remember I must be getting old :D Cheers:

I was one of their best customers, gold for 16 years in a row, three as platinum. Towards the end they just got worse and worse. I have now switched to Airlink for all regional flights and Virgin Atlantic for the UK. Both are far better. Ive just bought 11 return tickets to transfer all our people from Johannesburg to Harare for the Kariba Tiger Tournament - all Airlink, I just can't trust SAA again.

Many hunters here have tickets from before the lockdown that can now be rebooked for no charge.
We have seen so many posts here about hunters asking about this. I'm simply informing those hunters that they can now proceed with rebooking.

Sure KMG, fully understand and appreciate you doing that. Getting another airline on the London-Jhb routing can only be good for hunting. What I am saying is that SAA has a lot of catching up to do after their failed socialist experiment - lets hope that SAA and South Africa in general learns from it.

Saying that, I'm not convinced that I will fly with them again. They do however have a great route from JFK direct to JHB at competitive rates.

My only problem is Virgin is owned by a massive anti hunter and I dont want to give Branson money based on that

Now that the SAA situation is somewhat settled, the only thing left to do is send KMG a deposit for 2022…..

And booking on anyone other than Virgin will send that Branson fella a loud message.

I sent Marius a deposit last year or was it the year before? Anyway I'm going to be hunting with him come April. As for Branson he has enough money that me not flying with him won't make any difference

This warms my heart. I thought I was performing the necessary duties as a fellow enabler, but you need no such pressure!

Thanks for the heads up-hope they add a route to port Elizabeth soon.

Between Safair and Airlink, there are multiple rifle carrying flights per day. If you are not carrying a firearm, you can throw CEM air in there as well.

Does anyone know whether SAA is running, or plans to run, flights from Jo-burg to Tete in 2022 ?
