Do any of you invest in gold and silver, and if so, how?

Gneiss!
There's an underground granite vault in Wilmington. Delaware where a guy on a forklift moves pallets of bullion from one side to the other. Like @Red Leg posted, the taxes can eat a good chunk of profit plus you'll get paper in return. My 2¢, gold buying is for central banks. YMMV. Having said that, with data centers being built everywhere, copper is probably a better hedge.

Translation: Gold ALWAYS appreciates, so buy it. With the NWO that lurks at so many (country) doors today, that is one of the ways to protect yourself, amongst many others...A Swiss butcher friend of mine (upon tips from the homeland) cashed in his retirement and bought $200K decades ago...He sweated a bit when it dipped here and there, but it's now worth $4M and he retired. It's kind of necessary in the big world out there. End of Story.
Not understanding you’re question/statement?

I buy silver because of its use in electronics manufacturing/absolutely not believing that I’ll be trading fractional silver for food…. At that point ammo will be the coin of the realm.

CW, if your buddy bought $200,000 worth of silver 2 days ago at $83 and sold today at $93 he would have done pretty well.
Even better if you would of bought that silver at the end of covid at around $20 a oz and sold it today.

@Red Leg
Guns and bullets in that situation would be better as those with gold and silver that don't have gun will need protection from those that wish to take it nefariously.
Protection by person with gun and bullets don't come cheap.
Therefore I deduce young Watson that those with both guns and bullets will survive quite well unless someone is better with gun and bullets and wants your job.
Bob
It is why I have generous supplies of both - and Scotch or Irish - to see us through.

In all honesty I didn’t do what I should have done year’s ago.
Should have bought one pile to hold on to just in case.
And one pile to play with buying and selling.

Right now I am looking at some englehart bullion that I payed 3$ a oz for and a bag of junk pocket change . And looking at 86$ a oz.
That’s one hell of a profit.

But I like having a insurance policy so to speak.

Now throw in a ruger 77m2 fs that a guy wants 1000k for.
Thinking of the 3$ a oz that I payed
So have around 40$ in the rifle.

Hard choices lol
There’s nothing wrong with harvesting some of the equity in your investment and there are people who will make that very direct trade.

Besides trading for a durable good that has both collector and functional value, that sounds more like diversification to me!

I just buy shares in well run gold miners . The one I am in is up 560% over last 4 years . I can be in and out with a phone call . Good liquidity and no need to have a hoard under the bed . I am basically betting against the US$ by investing in gold .

When shtf gold is again the other yellow rock .In the bible it tells of them trying to eat gold and money and pershishing .I will get gold if i mine some .I was supose to go gold mining in Ak this past summer couldnt get anyone to go .

he keeps his cards close to the vest-as a Swissman, I'm certain he's plugged in on ALL markets! His investment was LONG ago, he's older and is likely (and wisely) risk averse these days, just enjoying life between the US and the CH with very little bills to pay and the King of Cash.

yes <$200K profit. I'm sure he still has some, but he's happy w/ his $4M over time! it'll still rise.

I have a guy right now with the 77 full stock ( got pic is tang safely not the m2)
I have more than enough oz that I payed 3$ for to get the rifle
It’s a 243
I am still thinking about it and a trip to jes.

If the shtf.
You are right for awhile other trade items will be worth more and skills.
But for me not ammo. You don’t get rid of stuff that will kill your or take your stuff.
If it does happen this will be way worse than our first depression.
Way less farmers and way less people that can get along without power.
Ever seen a cell tower go out people go nuts.
How many know where to put a outhouse around a camp nowadays?
Just today we had hit and miss cell problems.
My phone went out the wife’s worked.
But I was around a few younger people and they had no phone. They really didn’t know what to do.
And did not like being with out a way to contact anyone.
One ask with your health problems you’re not worried.
I said no I don’t have one for over 30 years a few days no big deal.

I don't even buy lotto tickets because if I can't win an argument with my wife I can't win lotto. But I have been told I have more chance of winning lotto than an argument with my wife.
Bob

I always get the last words in any discussion with my wife, and it is always "yes dear, you are right".

As for lotteries, the is just an extra tax on stupidity. It is always fascinating to hear people not willing to invest money in stocks or funds due to the risk and then saying they have to buy lottery tickets because they might win.
I blame the schools...

For me investing was very easy. A Nigerian prince emailed me with a great offer. I'm now they owner of multiple bars of gold safely stored by the Prince in his vault. Very friendly and helpful people. This is my retirement plan... Fingers crossed

Hopefully anybody with retirement or investments in the stock market already have metals in their Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

Unfortunately, some fund managers throw you into a fund and don’t actually manage anything.

The better guys are reading the tea leaves and moving things around. Hopefully, they read the tea leaves correctly and moved more of your ETFs into gold two years ago or at least a year ago.

Of course they shouldn’t go all in. but a percentage should’ve been in metals already gold gained 60% ish . The S&P 500 17% ish in 2025

But as you know, you haven’t gained anything until you cash out or take your chips and move to something else that’s underpriced right now

But good luck finding something that is underpriced right now, and still has upward potential in double or triple % digits.

They're out there but the only people that know are in the U.S. Congress.

Anyone who buys gold or silver - in physical form, or via an exchange-traded fund - is buying at all-time high prices. To state the obvious - which I do because I realize we have many non-market professionals on the site - means that prices must do something that they have never before done: rise to even higher highs. So, the question one must ask themselves is why do you think gold and silver will continue to rise to higher highs. Is it because of continued central bank purchases, or because President Trump's mobilization of prosecutors against the Federal Reserve has startled the market and gold and silver are now proxies for political unrest? I suspect that this morning's surge in gold and silver is in reaction to the Fed issue, which could mean this is a short-term volatility spike. Last week, the metals complex rolled back a bit in price. I do not have a crystal ball, but it might be easier to make money buying something that is not at the highest prices ever. As for stocks, well, earnings make stocks go higher and earnings are expected to increase this year, as are margins. Earnings growth does not always trump geo-politics, and risk factors, of course. I share these thoughts not as financial advice but in case they might help some fellow hunters from whom I have learned so much over the years.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
