Namibia consists of exquisite natural habitat ranging from the mighty Namib Desert on the west bordering the Atlantic Ocean to the flaming red dunes of the Kalahari bordering Botswana in the east. The north is home to sub-tropical vegetation and a vast number of perennial rivers that separate Namibia from its neighbors Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The arid landscape of the south is splint from South Africa by the majestic Orange River. Namibia is home to 2.1 million people making it one of the least densely populated countries in the world - allowing the extraordinary natural habitat and indigenous animal life to flourish.

EUREKA! - "a cry of joy or satisfaction when one finds or discovers something"

    Welcome to Eureka Hunting Safaris!

Farm Eureka, the base of Eureka Hunting Safaris, is located 1 hour to the western side of Outjo – also known as the main gateway to Etosha National Park. The 12 000 acres of land consists of the Mopane bushveld, the magnificent Ugab terraces and is cut in two by the Ugab river. The two permanent natural springs and dry riverbeds are home to a large variety of animals and bird species.

The thing to remember about an African hunting day is that it is your day. The PH will suggest, advise and lead but it is your choice on what you want to do.

The method of hunting employed depends on the preference of the client and can consist of either walking and stalking or hunting from blinds or special vantage points from which we glass and ambush animals. The option of hunting from one of our well-equipped vehicles is also available should you have any medical problems, or are limited by not being able to walk long distances. Your Professional Hunter will discuss these options with you after arrival.

The night before the PH will have briefed the hunting crew with the plan for the next day, so they know what is mainly going to be hunted and whether they need to load bait meat and baiting equipment, if that is on the agenda.

Every hunt has its own challenges and everyday will be a new adventure. A typical hunting day begins just before the sun sheds its first rays. Enjoy a cup of coffee and rusks before setting out on your safari, or opt for the more substantial selection of breakfast cereals, yogurt and juice. The morning hunt will generally run until around 11:00. Towards the end of the morning the temperatures will be getting quite high so you'll either make your way back to camp for lunch and a rest or find a thick shady tree to picnic under and have a snooze. The hunt is resumed at about 14:30 and will typically continue until sunset.

At the end of your African hunting day, back in camp, it’s time to kick back and relax, shower, have a drink, eat dinner and enjoy the talk and laughter around the campfire.

    For the Interest

    Main Tourist Attractions in Nambia

Climb the highest sand dunes in the world. Descend to the floor of the deepest canyon in Africa. Immerse yourself in the past at one of the Africa’s richest rock art sites, and watch wildlife shimmer against one of the most spectacular pans on earth. Explore the oldest, driest desert in the world and take time to listen to the silence and to your soul.

    Etosha National Park

Etosha´s wildlife is absolutely stunning. Etosha is home to 114 mammalian species including the black-faced impala and the threatened black and white rhino. There are no buffalo, hippo, crocodile or monkeys. However, plains game such as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, springbok, impala and eland abound in great numbers on the grasslands and congregate at waterholes in the dry season. Lions and hyenas must be searched for, but silver-backed jackals trot around almost oblivious to you.

    Sossusvlei

These dunes, part of the Namib Desert, have developed over a period of many millions of years. The result of material flowing from the Orange River dumped into the Atlantic Ocean, carried northward and then returned again to land by the surf. Here the wind continuously shifts the sand further and further inland, reshaping patters in warm tints that contrast vividly with the dazzling white surface of the large deflationary clay pans at their bases. Climbing up one of these dunes provides breathtaking views of the whole area, including Deadvlei, a large ghostly expanse of dried white clay punctuated by skeletons of ancient camelthorn trees, carbon dated between 500-600 years old.

    Fish River Canyon

The Fish River Canyon is the second largest natural gorge in the world and the largest in Africa. Set in a harsh, stony plain dotted with drought resistant succulents, such as the distinctive quiver tree or kokerboom, the canyon is a spectacular natural phenomenon. Formed over 500 million years ago, Fish River Canyon was created not only by water erosion, but through the collapse of the valley bottom due to movements in the earth’s crust. It drops vertically by half a kilometer without any warning.

    Zambezi Region

Caprivi is a narrow strip of land in the far northeast of Namibia. About 400 km long, it protrudes from the rest of the country like a finger, owns a very unique history and shares borders with 4 other countries – Angola, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This is the wettest region of Namibia by a great margin and consists mostly of extensive wetlands, floodplains, woodlands and rivers, like the Okavango and Zambezi. This habitat sustains a large variety of animal and bird species. Spectacular herds of elephant, buffalo, red lechwe and reedbuck are among the highlights of any game viewing experience.
