Did anyone spend any money so far at the Atlanta DSC convention?

Was Mike there from Gordy? He is kind of their double and safari rifle expert. I think he told me last i saw him that he wasn't planning on going to shows anymore?
I do not remember the gentleman's name with whom I spoke with. He had a beard and had a shaved head. Sorry my memory isn't better. I remember the fine guns not names. Lol

You guys are making me wish I was able to attend either DSC or SCI. I’ve never been to either and would really like to sometime.

I’m tentatively planning a safari for 2028 and I’d like to go to either TTHA, DSC or SCI next winter to see who I want to book with.

As to folks looking the part and who has money I think thats pretty tough these days. U.S. millennials are less materialist in the sense that we don’t own many individual objects but we do tend to like quality. It might not be the quality the last generation recognizes though. For instance many millennial ladies would rather have a hand made leather bag from a farmers market than a bag from Louise Vuitton if that makes sense. Still very high quality long lasting item but it doesn’t always look the part. I’m millennial. I know how to dress the part when needed. Though my work boots are Italian leather which is a running joke between my wife and I about my footwear being more expensive than hers.

Point is the things we used to look for change. The brands change the look changes. So it’s best to not to assume much about the book by its cover these days.
I wouldn't wait too long as I said earlier foot traffic at DSC in Atlanta is nothing like Dallas and I went in Sat am expecting to get my leopard hunt for 2027 and they sold the last one on Fri., so I left and walked around some more booked my ELE hunt for 2027 and then I was like hell there is no more '27 hunts so they will start booking '28 so I went back and did my contract for '28 so I didn't wait till next year to be told they were sold out also.

Buzz won a Krieghoff double in one of the raffles.
Buzz has come along way since staring in Apocalypse Now.

Yea but he still wears the same crocs everywhere. He's a tough nut.

I CONCIDER PETER THORMAHLEN A GOOD FRIEND AND MY SON AND I HAVE DONE A HANDFUL OF HUNTS WITH HIM. ALWAYS GET TICKLED CAUSE EVERY TIME I BUMP INTO HIM AT A SHOW HE ALWAYS TELLS A STORY ABOUT THE FIRST TIME WE MET TO WHOEVER I AM WITH.
SKINNY GUY IN FADED OUT BLUE JEANS AND A HOLEY T SHIRT (I DONT REMEMBER IT BE THAT WORN) COMES IN TO HIS BOOTH TALKING ABOUT WANTING TO DART A BLACK RHINO WITH HIS CROSSBOW. HE SPENT THE TIME I NEEDED TO ASK MY QUESTIONS AND REASSURE ME HE COULD GET THE HUNT SET UP FOR ME AND ACTIVITIES FOR MY WIFE WHILE WE WERE HUNTING. PRETTY SURE HE WAS EVEN MORE SURPRISED WHEN I WALKED BACK INTO HIS BOOTH THE NEXT DAY AND HANDED HIM A CHECK.

Let's see.
Bought the 4th signed edition of "Shooting the British Double Rifle"
Bought a new 1 MOA Trijicon RMR HD for my Rigby .500 NE.
Made the mistake of accepting a latte from Jerome at Rigby, while sitting down I was telling him of my ideal left hand bolt action rifle. He said he could build it for me in London Best configuration, 9.3x62 caliber for driven hunts. Waiting for a final quote.
Waiting on dates for a lion, hippo and 4 buffalo hunt in Tanzania for 2027. Will finalize then.
Waiting on a final quote and dates for a buffalo hunt in Namibia this year.
Waiting on a final quote and dates for red partridge driven hunt in Spain between Nov. 2026 and March 2027.
Found a custom leather case maker. They will make the case for my Rigby with two barrels and the scope and make it to fit inside a pelican take down case. That way I can take it out at camp and go to the back of the Land Rover. Here is a picture of what it will look like but room for two barrels.

THIS CONVENTION WE VISITED WITH PAST OUTFITS WE HAVE HUNTED WITH AND VISITED GUYS WE HAVE BOOKED WITH LATER THIS YEAR. NO LARGE PURCHASES, MY SON AND HIS BUDDY BOUGHT JEWELRY FOR VALENTINES FOR THEIR WIVES AND DAUGHTERS, COUPLE OF BODDINGTON BOOKS, A FLAGPOLE AND FLAGS FOR HIS NEW HOUSE AND I HELPED A PRETTY YOUNG LADY MAKE HER QUOTA BY RE-UPPING MY SCRIP TO SPORTS AFIELD.
ENJOYED THE MEXICAN FOOD, MARGARITAS AND CONVERSATION WE HAD AT THE AH DINNER. OUR TABLE WON 3 OUT OF 4 HATS (I'M NOT KNOWN FOR MY LUCK!)

IT'S ON PURPOSE. DO ALL MY PROPOSALS AND QUOTES THAT WAY TOO. NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT FROM A CUSTOMER OTHER THAN THE PRICE.

Fine Shooting Accessories, Ltd., they make everything themselves.

Here is the case:

He was there. Had a good visit with him.

I don’t understand an outfitter that spends the money to come over and set that booth up being anything but nice to everyone that comes by. Tire kicker or not- no matter what watch or boots they wear.
I’m the biggest nobody you ever met. I’ve never owned a watch and I wear the same type of Rios cowboy boots I’ve been wearing for over 30 years. Sometimes covered in cowshit- sometimes not (it’s the same man in the boots either way). I may not be a guy that’s going to book a hunt every year or every other year because of finances. But I sure may save up everything I can for that fifth year and go. In that year my money means the same as everyone else’s. And my recommendation afterward as well.
Costs nothing to be gracious and pleasant to people.

Dang, my daily driver is 23 years old.

I know I had the boots that I I'm wearing right now in 2007.

Maybe I am the example of what not to overlook.

Can firearms be purchased at the show? I saw Mauser had a booth. Are they selling rifles that you can actually buy that exact rifle?
i bought a rizzini 470 NE double on Saturday. they took it out of the display area so i would get that exact one. they couldnt run a federal backfround check at the show but explained that they will ship that specific rifle to my ffl here in atlanta. i should have in hand by friday or saturday this week.

Ya I really need to figure it out. I’m just planning a PG hunt for me and my son so that gives me some options. Nothing crazy either. Mostly I’m looking for a Bushbuck and Eland and then add random stuff like baboon, grey duiker, steenbok, porcupine and zebra or even culls. My son has a list of golden wildebeest, black impala along with warthog and common impala or springbok. I just don’t know who I want to go with yet.

I think this was the last year DSC was in Dallas. My friend and I were making our way through the outfitters booths and stopped to look at the pictures on the backdrop at a booth and nothing more. I think it was Kilombero North. One of the PHs saw us, came over and we had a fifteen minute conversation about their areas and the species there. No intention of booking or ability to book. Didn’t give the false impression of either. Just shot the breeze and had a pleasant conversation. That’s how it’s done and how you win customers. Even if it’s not me. Good word of mouth is great free advertising.

I agree 100%.

The first time I tried to talk to the two guys working the NECG booth they TOTALLY blew me off. I attempted to engage them several times and asked questions about products and services they offered. Nobody in line to talk to them, and they acted as if I were distracting them. I politely looked at a few things in their booth, thanked them for their time, and moved on. No sooner were we out of earshot than Tina @tinktink12 leaned over to me and whispered "Those guys were RUDE to you!"

I saw exactly how they looked at me to size me up, and they assumed I wasn't serious. I walked a few isles over and ordered a rifle from Kenny Jerrett.

What a lot of people fail to understand is they shouldn't be sizing up clients. They should realize that clients are sizing up THEM, their product or service.

@Tanks please share who this vender is? I too would love to put my rifles in a bag that fits into an empty pelican case that can just be placed on the cruiser

I looked long and hard at these cases. They were very impressive and well made.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
