Greater Kruger Region – My Hunt with @DERIAN KOEKEMOER SAFARIS

I booked a combination hunt for a 25 lb bull elephant (non-exportable) and an exportable management 36” Cape buffalo in the Greater Kruger region for October 14–22, 2025. The hunt was arranged with Derian Koekemoer Safaris. It was a short-notice booking, finalized only about four months earlier. Derian also works with a videographer, Kristen, who charges very reasonable rates—so why not have the hunt filmed? I hired her for the videography.

Have you ever dreamed of hunting Africa? Read Capstick, Ruark, Hemingway? Watched John Wayne in Hatari? If you are on this forum, I bet you have.

I have dreamed of hunting Africa for the past 50 years, and certain things were key in those dreams. Tented camp by a river. Baobab trees, Mopane trees. Crocodiles and hippos. Hyenas, Leopard, Lions growling at night. Buffalo in the thickets, eyeballing you. A tracker, following a trail through impossible ground, able to sense where the animal walked.

What a great way to finish off our year with this beautiful Lowveld Lion, we where fortunate to hunt this Lion in the Lowveld on one of our Private Game Reserves, this Lion is about 9 years old and what perfect time to take him. Past his prime old male.
