Deer Season 2026

Gun season started today in my game zone of SC. Primitive weapons started 08/15. In the lower part of the state gun and primitive weapons came in 08/15.

With temps near 100f and fields of corn that have not been cut yet, I don't feel like getting in the stand yet. Hopefully the corn gets cut this week and we can start planting some fall and winter plots.
Might go this weekend if we get some rain and a little cooling trend.

Yeah, I think we're the longest in the nation. August 15th- January 1rst

The property that I hunt is home to a good many copperheads, a few moccasins and some damned healthy timber rattlers!

Our archery season isn’t until the 5th, and rifle is Nov 14-29th.
Luckily the county I hunt in doesn’t have poisonous snakes.

It’s been kinda of a dry summer and the cotton mouth have come out to the hay field
There more of them in there than I have ever seen before they come out of the dry swamp.

Rattlesnake this year the biggest I got had 11 and a botton
And a buddy that’s a timber cruiser killed one 17 and a botton said it was at least 7 ft and was as big around as one of my arms
( that’s not little)

I've sat a couple of times but mostly because I wanted to get to the club and do some work so I took a morning sit then got to work. I'm almost hoping I don't have to kill a deer this early.

I’m behind this year down in MS. Don’t even have cameras running yet and we’re a month to bow season. Been waiting to close on some land before I decide what goes to the lease and what goes to my property.

Depending on your county in Georgia, deer season runs from September 12- January 31.

(There are some weapons restitutions, which don't make sense, but we do have 4 1/2 months to get deer)

I'm a bird watcher along with being a bird hunter. From my own observations - tropical storms and severe weather fronts usually "run off" whatever migratory species you have before the storm. A September or late August tropical storm will usually deplete an area of doves, teal and shorebirds. In absence of such fronts, the birds will continue to build in numbers until the weather turns cooler or the food runs out. That's my guess anyway. Since we haven't had much in the way of storms this year, I'm seeing a building up of bird numbers too.
