Hey guys!

First Africa trip!!

The boots that I’ve tried on I’ve liked the most are the Danner Recurve 7 Moc Toe.

Anybody used that boot over there? Thoughts on if that would be a good choice??

Have not used your model but use the Danner 452 for many years.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to AH!

I noticed the Danner Recurve Moc Toe is a waterproof design and most of the time what I've found is that waterproof means is that they hold in heat and are really only good for keeping moisture out from short wet grass. In the event you do reach any sort of water, the 7" height will most certainly be too short to keep the water from entering over the top of the boot. The waterproof design also makes them slower to dry overnight without the aid of a boot dryer.

With all that said, these boots could be the perfect ones for your safari. You need to consider the area you are hunting, time of year and expected weather conditions. I prefer non-waterproof, non-steel toe, soft soled, non-insulated, military style boots like the Rocky S2V. They are water-resistant, but certainly not waterproof. Plus I usually take some camp shoes for lounging around the fire after the hunt.

Above all your boots should be comfortable to wear for at least a 2 mile hike. Make sure the boots are broken-in before you go to assess possible blister points.
