Dakota 76 Traveler in .375/.300 H&H

At the risk of straying from the for sale purpose of the thread, and only because the question was asked here:

I also asked about a 3 caliber set up from ParkWest booth in Dallas last weekend. The issue is the manufacturing/duplication process (I don't understand the specifics) but they take the original "collar" for the gun and then duplicate it with machine work so the two are perfect copies. This process does remove very small amounts of metal from the original collar. If they subjected the original "collar" the the same process a third time, the loss of metal from it could compromise accuracy/fit of the original perfectly fit barrel. Hope I've explained this well - Ward spent some time with me on the subject.
No derailing at all. Any traffic on the weekend is valued. :-). That is interesting.

That would explain why they need the original barrel to make the 2nd one.

Thanks much. Additionally, I appreciate the offers, but should have indicated in the initial post that price is firm. Mea culpa.
If I had the cash on hand id fly down on my next day off. Its a very good deal.

So if taking too much metal off the original collar is an issue then why don't they use the second barrels collar for the third and so on down the line?

Pretty sure you get what I might call "drift" doing that. An almost perfect copy is not perfect. So you copy that and get another almost perfect copy which is now less perfect that the first.

Good lord…I hate finding dream guns right after I’m broke because of dream guns. I am a total sucker for Dakota CCH actioned rifles. I need to send my 375 in to them for similar.

I think there is some kind of dynamic energy of whatever the cosmic sign stuff says about great guns popping up at similar times. Think all the shows and hunt bookings play a role too.

I sure hope you have this rifle to a wonderful home soon. But for me just wiring funds to import a pair of Heyms from Germany beginning of this week to being foolish and calling Cabelas yesterday about a Rigby they just got in and guy saying the gentleman they got it from brought in a second rifle in some 9.3 caliber. So I went from considering stretching for another 416 to buying two darn rifles. At least the Highland Stalker was basically 1/2 price.

Otherwise, you’d have met my uncle in Austin.

Hmmm, if only there were a manufacturing company full of modern CNC machinery that could produce take down rifles with precision made extra barrel sets?

Oh wait, Blaser spits out extra barrels day and night!
But, what of an American company that could produce a quality take down rifle with extra barrels sets at a fair price? @Imac45acp are you and the Montana Rifle Company reading this?

I’m guessing it’s more of a business decision than a machining issue. It’s smart business to limit production to only what the market absorbs immediately, No shelf stock. Like DeBeers used to limit the release of diamonds to uphold rarity and value.

If Dakota/Parkwest made extra barrels it devalues the current travelers exclusivity and rarity.

It would also bite into future traveler sales. They would be spending money on new tooling to modify the barrel/ action connection to make less in the future. Not a good business move.

Why would future buyers have a new combo package made. Some would still want new.

some would buy more barrels for current travelers in circulation, nibbling into new sales.

I think this last reply is the key. They have been spending their time making all models available left handed at no upcharge and various other activities that are more strategic. The owner of Parkwest talked with me about my Blaser R8 takedowns. They are plenty aware of other solutions. I think Parkwest is doing well and making smart decisions internally and externally in the market.

Let’s get this combo sold!

My goodness. You are cornering the market on Heyms and have killed it at Cabela’s numerous times. That is the second 9.3 Highland stalker that has gone for a ridiculous low price at Cabela’s. There was a Highland stalker, effectively as new, and 9.3 with a Z8i sold here in the Austin area (Buda) Cabela’s for around $9000 or so. Oooof.

I shall buy no more guns—forever (unless I find a HS 50% off). :-)

I need to stop using voice “text”, but it made sense enough to follow. :-) Walking into church and if there is a patron saint of gun sales, hopefully the Traveler will have a new home when I emerge.

Well, no help from the patron saint of gun sales. Then again, I may need to inquire with my Catholic friends for some help. :-). Happy Sunday, boys and girls! Signing off for the day!

I am deeply tempted, but really need a 14.5 inch LOP and want a 416 :). Oh, and I’m in Canada!

I had one Built last year, exactly the same calibers, over 23K.
Who ever buys this Rifle is getting a Great deal!!!

Update. I have been working with a gentleman planning on flying in from out of state to evaluate/purchase; however, after several conversations we established there are too many hoops to jump through for both of us. I will send pms out to those in Texas for local sale. Thanks much.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
