A well written article by Sue Reid!
Interesting question regarding culling, whatever animal. My personal opinion/view takes on a different mindset when hunting versus culling, or PAC.
I took part in a massive impala cull in Zimbabwe in 1990. We killed nineteen hundred eighty-seven in ten nights. (Posted 9/6/2021) I had no remorse or sad feelings about the killing of the animals. It was a contractual necessity.
Same as when I was shooting elephant on PAC. I actually wasn't sad about having to shoot them. After all, the villager's problem was solved (albeit, temporarily) and they shared a great deal of protein among them. After the recovery, the only remnants of the elephant were the contents of the stomach, and a huge bloodspot. And the local dogs were licking up the blood.
Standing next to my first "Hunted" elephant I was in awe. And yes, it was humbling. Much different than shooting them as crop raiders.
