I have found a NIB CZ 550 chambered in .505 Gibbs. The guy is asking CDN $3,899.00. Is this a reasonable price?

Is that just for the rifle? Scope included? Grade of wood? Any ammunition?

With nothing else to go on, this seems a bit high. A quick look at GunBroker and I found one in 416 Rigby for $1525 NIB. That is of course US dollars, but still.....

I would note that the NIB 416 Rigby you're referencing is at a $1,525 bid at the moment. That seller has been selling out new old stock fancy grade 416 Rigbys for a couple weeks/months now, with actual auction prices ending in the $2,300-2,800 range. Take a look at closed/ended auction data. Unlikely that rifle stays at that price for long.

Sounds about in the ball park. Right now there is a used Sako 500 Jeffery for $2900, a new CZ 404 Jeffery for $8500 and a used Sako 416 rigby for $3900. All in Canada and all in Canadian $. None a 505 Gibbs, but gives the overall impression of prices being all over the place. If u decide to pass on the Gibbs, please let me know.

The Gibbs in the 550 has typically been in the $2500 USD range before CZ ceased production when they popped up for sale. If in fact a NIB factory CZ550 in 505 Gibbs, the $3000USD/$3900CAD mark is not bad. People are spending $2000-$2500USD on used 416 Rigby 550s, I would opt to spend $3000 for a 505 Gibbs NIB rifle over $2500USD for a used 416. Its not a every day gunsmith that can rebore/rebarrel and make reliably feed a 505 Gibbs from that magnum action.

Should've made it a "slow" look instead of quick, good feedback for the OP.

from the 2019 CZ catalog, not sure is 2020 differed much. Street retails were typically 10%-15% less than MSRP.
CZ550's
416 Rigby in standard walnut MSRP $1358
416 Rigby 'Fancy' Walnut MSRP $1999

550 Gibbs Standard Walnut MSRP $3220
Upgraded wood was POR

The one I have listed around $3600. Very nice wood.

The 505's came with a mercury tube recoil reducer. The 416's did not.

Probably worth that price if you really want one.

Sounds good to me...I bought my 500 Jeff from custom shop at sci...as said they had sale on for last hour of show...I paid usd 2500 I think....was 900 or 1000 usd off in that last hour...so figured couldn't say no...you not going to find many new and you ain't going to lose money...not like they ever going to be made again

I ran across a message from you a couple of years ago while I was going through old emails. I have arranged a second bison hunt in Nebraska in September 2024, about 6-years after the first, when my supply of bison meat was exhausted. My email is [redacted].

If those Schells rings fare still available, I could use them. I'm willing to pay for the shipping.
